Wow, this book was incredible! Had me hooked from the first page and kept me up late at night. The plot was well thought out with complex characters and a true enemies-to-lovers trope. The twists had me shook and yelling at my kindle at 1am,
How dare you do that to Josie, Hayley when I catch you...
. I thought this book did a good job at exploring the complex relationships we have with our families and the realities of living as a black person in America while also having a very intriguing storyline and relationship between the two main characters. My one critique would be there was a little too much telling instead of showing but I think this will improve as the author gains more trust in themselves to weave ideas in more subtly and their readers to pick up on hinted-at details.
Overall a fantastic debut novel that I would recommend to anyone wanting to read a YA fantasy with vampires, mystery and very minimal spice.

Sabaa Tahir expect an invoice for my therapy bill because this series destroyed all sense of happiness I had left.

one of the most emotionally heavy books I've every read. I don't think the characters (or I) had one moment of peace the entire book and everything that could go wrong went wrong.
