I have been eager to read this series for a very long time. I will admit, it has been a good decade+ since this book came out, so I will forgive some characterizations in the book as being out of date. Specifically Blue, her design reminded me of the modern manic-pixie-dream-girl and I wasn’t fond of that. It got better as the book went on.
In general, the book was slow for me to get into, despite being an easy read. It took a while to get me interested, but once it did, it was a fast track from there. I was hooked once it leaned into the paranormal and by the end of the book I was hungry for more. Had I had the next in the series available, I would have gobbled it up.
As it stands, it was a pretty good book with some good magical and mystery elements. A single gator for it’s lack of queer characters, but I’ve been told to be patient!

I won't leave a formal review other than this was fun! I love expansion lore for fandoms and this was a good addition.

I read this book very fast and I think it is well-written, just perhaps not my vibe. I am too lazy to get into it right now but I can confirm that there’s no gay and the book wasn’t anything special.

THIS BOOK. Wow, how do I even get into it. I do not think I can describe how transcendent I felt after reading this book. I felt like I was truly looking in on the personal lives of two people in some far off future or alternate dimension. I felt vulnerable and giddy as the characters played cat and mouse through time and space.
There were multiple times in the book where I don’t think I understood the full scene or what was going on because these authors created a word so unique and different and vibrant that my brain had no personal frame of reference to guide it and it was exhilarating. It’s so rare that a story takes you somewhere you have truly never been.
I won’t go into details, but that ending had me racing to the finish line at the end of the book in that way where you desperately want to finish it but knowing you won’t know what to do when it’s over. Highly recommend. All of my stars and all of my gators.

Full stars and gators from me for this book! This was my first read-through of a Chuck Tingle work and I enjoyed it a lot. It was incredibly easy to read with pacing that made it truly difficult to put down the book. I read it with the queer horror book club that I host and I think it has so many amazing topics and literary devices.
- Dealing with trauma
- Subverting toxic tropes
- Standing up for what you believe in
- The capitalist hellscape that Hollywood often is
- The negative ways that technology can be abused in the future
- Ensuring not only your success but the success of those that come after
- Healthy queer relationships
- Gay & asexual representation
All around a very thoughtful piece of work in both the horror genre and as a queer read. Would definitely display on my bookshelf and recommend to others.
