You really feel the setting.
People say it’s slow, and arguably it is, but there’s always something happening and the depth of the characters and world make it feel rich enough to savour.

I’m very slowly working my way through Robert Greene’s books. This is a good one.

For a reasonably short book, it did feel slow at time.
I read The Terror recently and that’s a much longer book with a few similar elements, but it so much faster.

The villain is suitably vile, so if you're into truly awful (in a good way) antagonists, this book is worth reading.

The first few chapters is very informative and interesting. I found the back half quite slow and repetitive.

An intriguing start, but as a single instalment, you don’t get far in the story. As a beginning, it did its job.

Definitely my least favourite volume so far. I’ll probably not go straight for the next one this time.

It doesn’t talk a huge amount about how to outline an entire seasons once you have your pilot, but that’s really my only criticism and that amounts to me just wishing there was more.
