A quick choose-your-own-path type read with some queer rep sprinkled in. Quite fun but ultimately didn't stick with me much, particularly as I wasn't a huge fan of the writing.
Liyana's story is unique in that no one has really written about homelessness in Singapore before. She's an incredibly strong and positive person with a genuinely inspiring attitude, and she is made even stronger by all the wonderful people she meets; a great amount of the good things that happened to her were thanks to unexpected encounters and the kindness of strangers. Her story is intense yet enjoyable to read, as she remains optimistic and amitious throughout all her struggles.
The one thing I didn't enjoy about this book was the writing. It feels quite rough and in need of some serious polishing, and I found it very dramatic at times. I would still recommend this book however - it tackles an important issue that isn't really talked about, and the author is an admirable person whose voice deserves to be heard.

A little complicated to follow at times because there's so much going on in this book, but the characters are lovable and memorable and the plot is definitely on the unique side. Would recommend if you like YA fantasy and don't mind challenging yourself a little.

If you loved Pretty Little Liars but wanted something gayer, this is the book for you.
Such a lovely collection! I loved quite a few poems in this little book. I found the organisation of it a bit distracting, and couldn't immerse myself in all the poems, but overall would definitely recommend it!
Experimental memoir that explores queer theory and the fluidity of identity through a personal lens. I LOVED the way she writes about motherhood and sexuality, and especially the relationship between becoming a mother and being desexualised. Super interesting and a surprisingly quick read!

Lots of great info about guide dogs in a Singaporean context and a glimpse of what it's like to be blind in this city. However, while I respect Cassandra Chiu's advocacy a lot, I disagree with the foundation of her views, which is that productivity is what gives a life its value. I just cannot get behind that and I think it's a very misguided approach to equality and human rights. Also wasn't a huge fan of the writing, but that would not have bothered me so much if it weren't for the focus on productivity! Regardless, a good book to read for the interesting information on guide dogs and mobility for blind people.
