Back and even better than before (if that's even possible), Anna Hawke has given readers another masterpiece. Her amazing worldbuilding continues as the plot continues to advance, and her characters are so much more than what they seem on the surface - they are an absolute joy to watch grow and flourish.
I'm so excited to continue this series - with every question answered, I gain three more. Against Immortal Sins made me laugh, cry, rage, want to wrap all the characters in giant hugs and fuzzy blankets and never let them go; Hawke even managed to totally flip my opinion of one of the MCs (from wanting to toss them off the nearest building to loving them dearly)! I cannot recommend this book and the Immortal Accords series enough to romantasy fans - its one you'll want to read over and over again.

Anna Hawke has absolutely nailed the romantasy genre, beautifully mixing the characters' longing for each other with a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and begging for more. It's so difficult for authors to balance the romance aspect between two characters and a fantasy plot that doesn't fall to the wayside as a result of that romance, but Hawke has absolutely done it.
Every character, main or otherwise, has a distinct personality, and their feelings are absolutely relatable to readers, even if the characters themselves aren't human.
The way Hawke has slipped the supernatural community into our world is spellbinding - it feels as though it really could be there, right now, existing under our noses, just out of sight. I read this book in under 24 hours and am about to start devouring the second. I absolutely cannot wait to see how the plot continues to build, to find out more about the other immortal races, and to see how (or if) they manage to come together to face external threats against them all.
I loved every second I spent reading this, and cannot wait for more!

OH MY GOODNESS. THIS BOOK, Y'ALL. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING I DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED AND MORE.
Thank goodness book 2 is scheduled for early 2024 or I just would not be able to handle it.
Geneva Monroe has taken the bright and shiny Emerald City and tarnished it beyond repair. Her realistic, gritty as hell version of Oz reminds me of Chicago at the height of the mob days, and yet it's as familiar as the back alleys of the cities we traverse every day.
The plot has more twists and turns than the Yellow Brick Road, the characters possess depth and growth that hit you where it hurts - all while managing to include more steam than a yard of locomotives and enough background to make your heart shatter for every single character.
The only reason I didn't read this entire novel in one sitting is because I noticed it was midnight and I was only halfway through the book. (I would have stayed up all night otherwise.) I didn't know what to expect going in, but I was fully invested before I reached the end of the second chapter.
Absolutely brilliantly written, with a seedy underbelly twist to the shining city we've seen so many times on television. I haven't had so much fun while clinging to the edge of my seat in a long time. Dark OZ is bound to be an instant bestseller.
