I always liked writers notebooks, their first thoughts on things, and the unpolished tidbits - the honest truth. Didion was able to capture the moment in just her passing thoughts. It is disappointing that she never wrote her book about the South because her musings were and still are spot on - 50 years later.
Okay. It didn't quite work. I can't figure out the reason yet. When I do, I will update. Maybe.
Redundant. Could have been half the pages it was. Good solid information.
I was spoiled because I watched the BBC Series first and I like it better because there were fewer characters to remember and more action. The Novel itself is good when it comes to describing The Ladies Paradise, the store, but I felt that other characters were developed less. But this could be my bias for the show showing than the actual novel.

Informative and enlightening on the political, historical and philosophy of civil wars. It comes down to what you would define a civil war.
