This is one of those stories that while it's totally fascinating and gripping, you feel a deep burn of guilt the whole way through - because everything that happens to Linda Lovelace is true. This is a memoir, written by Linda Lovelace - known as the porn star in Deep Throat, a movie that shot the porn industry into even more acclaim. Linda was manipulated and physically and emotionally abused by her boyfriend, and then husband, Chuck Traynor. She was forced at gunpoint to become a prostitute and you keep thinking it couldn't possibly get worse for - and then it does. I honestly don't know how she didn't find it in herself to end it all. What a brave lady.
This book made me so angry at the world, and in particular the men in it and i had such a hard time not getting up in the middle of the office, and kicking all the men in their nads. Just cause they were men.
I'm so sorry that Linda didn't have the amazing life she deserved following her brave escape from Traynor and the porn industry. She deserved so much more and the world and the people in it, let her down.

I think Siege has been my favourite book out of the As The World Dies series and I'm pretty sad that it is over, I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a friend or should I say friends (Jenni, Katie, Nerit, Travis...bye guys!)
Siege is packed with action and anticipation and you never really know what is going to happen. I found myself on the edge of my seat, trying to read as fast as I could, willing my friends to keep fighting and not let the zombies claim them, doing a victory pump when they won or a cry of despair when they didn't.
I love and hate the fort with equal passion. The love for the security it gave and for the great ideas that came out of it, from Jason, Calhoun, Juan and others. I hated all the ignorant and down right annoying people it housed. I understand that this kind of religious nonsense would most likely happen in such an apocalypse but I still find it so infuriating that people would start pointing fingers and spewing hatred than trying to find a way for all humankind to survive. Rhiannon does a great job in showing a great intolerance of any hatred towards any kind of race or sexuality, there is such a diversity within her range of characters and I find it really refreshing to read.
I'm going to talk about the deaths now, which I will hide with a spoiler so if you don't know yet, don't read!
Felix - oh, Felix, you were doing so well! I really liked Felix and there was a pang of regret when he died but we didn't get a good enough glimpse of him for me to really feel it. But still sad to see you go Bud, over a scrap of ear.
Roger - what a sad way to die, he was almost there. I can't remember now whether they shot him or left him for the zombies. But I think they shot him. He was a good guy.
Jenni- Oh Jenni...one I didn't think was coming but when it did...it was so Jenni like, I couldn't be too sad. She kicked zombie ass and went down flying. Her end was so bittersweet...and though it broke my heart, the fact that she was happy about it..didn't make it seem so bad. She got to go to her babies. She said goodbye to Juan and Jason, and eventually the others. She gave Juan a family when he needed it most! Her death was so perfect.
Bill - this one was one I found to be one of the most heart-breaking. I hoped he wouldn't die especially after finding love with Katarina. It was so sad. Bill was always this steady, lovely guy who was always there for the characters who needed them. He was such a loss.
Dale and Ken - another heart-breaker. Good ol' Ken...he was just so gay! You would almost expect him to be a coward because he was so flamboyant about everything but he was one of the bravest, always volunteering for missions where he had a high chance of dying. And he died in Dale's arms...it was sweet and Dale was sweet, killing Ken before he could be bit and not only that, but tolerating his flirting and teasing him about it when a lot of straight guys could feel uncomfortable.
Peggy and Cody- Ugh, what a stupid bint. Peggy was always annoying and I feel really disappointed in her but overall she wasn't a huge loss, and to be honest, neither was Cody as all he did was cling onto her skirts.
Curtis- FUCK YOU CURTIS!!!!! I knew it was him from The First Days. You stupid racist homophobic asshole! Nerit should have shot his balls off before she shot his brain open.
I love how Calhoun gave a little glimpse into the future of the fort which I think Rhiannon wanted us to spot. The fort will continue and prosper and eventually Jason will take over from Travis and be an excellent leader and perhaps the one that will take them into a zombie free world...I hope so!

This is a fantastic book which manages to combine a great murder mystery into a middle-ages world that holds several leaders of history and not only that but the story is told through the eyes of a young Elizabeth I, one of the world's most iconic female leaders of all time.
Elizabeth I gets a chance to travel to Constantinople to a world chess tournament with her treasured mentor, Roger Ascham. She takes a long Elsie, her companion who cares more about boys and dresses than she does about chess and world politics unlike a much younger Elizabeth. It's not long before Ascham and Bess get caught up in a murder mystery after a cardinal is found murdered in the Sultan's own palace.
The reader ends up on an adventure, solving things along with the duo and seeing a world in which possibly shaped Elizabeth into the Virgin Queen she became. We heard conversations with scholars talking about the worth of a woman and the power she can have, all of which Elizabeth one day proved to be true.
I found this a captivating tale of both mystery and adventure. I would recommend it to any historic fiction lovers and indeed those who love a good crime/mystery novel!

I give this book 2.5 stars.
I picked this book up due to the Christmas season, I felt like reading something with a bit of Christmas cheer. I was a little wrong however, as there wasn't actually that much Christmas in the book.
I will start that I did love Romily, and not just because of her beautiful name. She showed strength when she was honest with Charlie about how she felt and throughout the year, she never allowed anything to stop her hope in believing she would find PK.
The character who annoyed me however, was Charlie. So a great girl admits her love for him, he's a complete jerk and then within weeks, he's acting like he's love with her....and then it takes him almost a whole year to finally admit he might have feelings for her. Like, how can you like someone with no backbone like that...I lost a lot of respect for him.
I guessed that Romily and Charlie would try to make things work between them but I didn't expect what happened to happen. I wish there was a little more between Will and Romily at the end, like even an epilogue of the Christmas after that with them together, or engaged or something. Overall, not a bad book but dont't expect too much from it.

I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would! It's basically a collection of fictional records from people who experienced (and survived) the zombie apocalypse. 'World War Z' has only been over for a few years and a major clean up is still happening, a fact that I really liked. I mean, you never really think about how zombies would get frozen in ice, or remain underwater ...basically forever, meaning there would always be a risk of another outbreak happening!
I really enjoyed the fact that the book gave readers the apocalypse through the eyes of people from different countries and different cultures. I find that a majority o,f well, anything zombie tends to be American-based. But World War Z gave it to use from Nigeria, India, China, Iceland, Germany...everywhere! And how different people had to overcome different things to try and survive.
The book is completely different from the movie as well. The only thing they have in common is the name and then Israel's method of defence against the zombies (the big wall). I wouldn't let your opinion of the movie detract you from reading the book, or vice versa!

Read for the first time on December 31 2013 - January 2 2014
Where to even start with this amazing book! I am so glad that this was the one I chose to read as my first book of 2014 and it has raised the bar high for all the books to follow. When I finished it, I had to just lie there for a while and take it all in, it's one of those stories that just reaches out and grabs you by the heart and you can't help but become invested in each and every character.
I normally find characters like Lou a bit annoying, stuck in a rut and not doing anything to get out of it but complaining the whole time about their life but Lou seemed quite happy stuck in her rut until Will began to open her eyes and actually made her experience what she was missing out. I love how you discover things about the general story that you would never have guessed from reading the back of the book so most things come as a big surprise (such as why Lou was on a six month contract and her fear of the maze). But Lou charmed me with her bright personality and even brighter clothes. And Will, darling Will who was dealt the most cruel of hands in life....from his Christy Brown impressions to his sarky sarcastic comments, you have to love him because underneath it all you can see the man he used to be, the bright vibrant amazing man that he was. It's so terribly tragic and that's not even the worst part.
I really hoped the ending would be different but deep in my heart,I knew it wouldn't be. I still wasn't prepared for the sobs I had to hold back as I read the final pages. This is a book that will make you cry and laugh, sometimes simultaneously, and flip your heart upside down and inside out. Read it. Now.
