This picture book tells the incredible true story of a group of Thai boys who built a floating soccer field. They lived on a floating man-made island off the coast of the mainland. The only time they could play soccer was twice a month when the full moon or the new moon would cause low tides to reveal the sand bar. They decided that if they could live in a floating town, they could build a floating field. After practicing on their new floating field, the boys entered a soccer tournament on the mainland.
The pictures are vibrant and full of movement. I loved the attention to detail in the illustrations and particularly enjoyed the birds-eye view illustrations. I thought this was an interesting perspective.
After the story, the author's note explains how the author came to learn of the floating soccer field and his visits to the island. Prasit, the main character of the story, has included his own note. The author even adds a translation table to teach children Thai soccer words.
The author was particularly moved by this story as he's a big soccer fan. He has selected a really inspiring story to tell that will resonate with many children who have a passion for sports or other ambitions.
I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Millbrook Press.

This picture book strives to teach patience through growing a giant pumpkin from a seed. Even though you could enjoy each step of the process, such as adding sprouts to a salad or making a pumpkin pie, it is certainly more fun to grow a record-winning pumpkin or even a pumpkin you could race!
The question and answer format of the book makes this an engaging read for young children. However, I found some of the phrasing to be a bit awkward.
At the end of the book, the author includes fun facts, as well as pictures of giant pumpkins and people racing them in Oregon. Who knew you could race pumpkins in the river! When I was a child, we used to race our old shriveled-up Jack-O-Lanterns down our steep driveway, that is, until my mother decided we would stop carving pumpkins and only decorate them so she could make pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
The illustrations are colorful, and even though the drawings appear flat at first glance, there is actually some depth to the images. I appreciate that the illustrator strives to promote diversity in his work.

In this picture book, a child's dream library is built to even include dragons and a waterslide...neither of which seems safe around books! But if you can build your own library (with the help of a giant), why not add all of your favorite things?
I like that this book promotes the love of libraries and reading. I just didn't feel that the book was anything that stood out from the rest. Furthermore, some of the additions to the library seem as though they would detract from reading, such as the playground. In a world where screen time is the new playtime, I'm all for promoting reading, though.

This gorgeous picture book describes one of the 40 Wonders of America: Pando. Pando, amazingly enough, is an Aspen grove that started as a single seed and grew into 47,000 clones sharing a single root system. The poetic narrative is almost as beautiful as the sparkling illustrations. This is not only a book I want to purchase to add to my child's library, but one that will ride with us in our RV now that we will have to go see this amazing feat of nature for ourselves. This book will be instrumental in saving Pando, sharing the awe and wonder of this place with children and their caregivers.
