Wine Cellar Library's Review of The Lines Between Us on OBC
This children's book was recently translated from Dutch into English. The illustrations are charming. Isabel Mouse ventures into the forest with her violin and encounters other animals playing music. Each time she tries to share the beauty of the new music she has found with her musical siblings, her siblings are unimpressed, believing their own music to be superior. Will she be able to change their minds?
The book is intended for children between the ages of 4 and 9. It contains supplemental suggestions for music education at the end, inviting children to interact with their environment and each other to make music. It inspires children to listen to new styles of music and appreciate the sounds they are hearing.
While I enjoyed the book, I felt that it was lacking an element that would allow children to connect with Isabel and the other characters. Overall, it is a cute book that will hopefully inspire little musicians to try new music.

One of my favorite elements in a book is a well-written unreliable narrator. In Good Girls Lie, everyone has secrets, and those secrets are beginning to put lives in danger. I'd been a little apprehensive about reading a thriller set in a prep school, but I found this book to be appealing even for those like myself who are over the age of thirty. There is some prep school drama to be sure, but it is on a more sinister level than you would expect.

If you are turned off by books that lack loveable characters, this book is not for you. Lydia Robinson is not a good person and she's an even worse mother. That being said, Finola Austin's portrayal of a narcissistic mother is very well done. She offers no excuses or explanations for Lydia's behavior, and yet, in her manner of writing, it is evident to the reader that Lydia is terrible and completely unaware and unapologetic for it.

The cover art is visually stunning and immediately attracted me to this book. As the fantasy elements are revealed and the reveries are explained, the reader learns along with the main character; Kane's memory is incomplete after an accident that occurred under inexplicable circumstances. Reality is malleable, and each person's perception of reality can manifest itself in dangerous ways. The most important takeaway from this novel is the representation of members of the LGBT community and the validation of their life experiences in a heteronormative society. Overall, the book was well-written and original, but for me personally, it lacked a certain element that might have allowed me to connect with the characters.

This book felt like an unfinished manuscript. Just when I thought the story was finally taking off, the book ended abruptly.
The atmosphere of the book is its only redeeming quality. It is eerie, and the characters have an overwhelming sense of the unknown. For this reason, it makes sense that the book is being adapted into a film. I believe this aspect will translate really well into visual media.
However, the excessively long explanations (what is with that shopping list?) and the lack of explanation or resolution just left me hanging. I found myself feeling very frustrated when I reached the book's "conclusion."
I'm thankful that instead of purchasing this book from Book of the Month that I listened to a free version of the audiobook on Libby.

I loved Michele Campbell's [b:A Stranger on the Beach|41150430|A Stranger on the Beach|Michele Campbell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1542748435l/41150430._SY75_.jpg|64320860], so when the publisher invited me to read The Wife Who Knew Too Much, I was really excited. I loved this book even more! Michele Campbell has become one of my favorite thriller writers.
After Tabitha and Connor's relationship is forced to end abruptly, their lives head in completely opposite directions. Tabitha is a broke and divorced waitress in the same town, but Connor has married an extremely wealthy woman, causing him to become famous by association. When the two see each other for the first time in over a decade, neither can resist the magnetic pull between them.
But then, Connor's wife dies in an apparent suicide. Where the lovers may have thought they were getting a second shot at happiness, their pasts come back to haunt them.
I was immersed in the twists and suspense. Obsession is an overarching theme in this novel, and Campbell does a fantastic job of illustrating it.
Yet again, this author has completely blown me away. I have added all of her other books to my TBR to be devoured at a later date.

I love psychological thrillers that keep you guessing. The only reason this book merited four and not five stars is because I figured out the twist before it was revealed. I wouldn't consider the twist predictable, and even though I guessed it, I still very much enjoyed reading through to the end. This book does tackle some dark themes, so it should be read with caution.

This book was recently translated from Dutch into English. The illustrations are cute, but I couldn't help thinking that the racoons looked more like pandas with long tails.
This book sadly didn't work for me. To be honest, it sounds as thought it was written by a child, especially when Big Raccoon and Little Raccoon have their disagreement. Due to the way it was written, the message the author intended to portray gets somewhat lost.
Children will still enjoy this book, but I don't think it will be one that is read time and time again.
