The Good Kind of Absurd.
A wonderfully ridiculous take on the Frankenstein classic. Plenty of whimsy riddled romance, yet comical, moments. The apology, to Mary Shelley by author Sally Thorne, making it all the more fun. Shelley may be rolling over in her grave but I loved it!

4.5 Stars
My first Tartan Noir and I was not disappointed. I'd recommend this book to anyone down for a slowburn, supernatural, murder mystery interwoven with Celtic history (specifically the Scottish Highlands) and folklore.
This was neeearly a 5 star read but the first third or so of the story relies heavily on vibes. Fortunately, these are hauntingly beautiful, Scottish coastal vibes, so I was fully on board.
Thanks to NetGalley for the eArc.

Like the first book in this duology, The Blood Gift delivers when it comes to action packed brain candy. Davenport excels here. Violence (and romance) aside, this story continues to feel very messy and childish with the banter between Ikenna, her team, and the often cheesey, drawn out exposition from various villians/threats throughout. In contrast, the ending was wrapped up (at warp speed) a tad too tidy, for my preferences.
Still a solid okay, fun duology.
