Narrator: Caitlin Davies
The Whispering Night is a great conclusion to the Luminaries trilogy.
It does, however, start off a bit slow (and Winnie is everso whiny, in my opinion), but the pace picks up about a third of the way through. You're quickly welcomed back into the Luminary and High School spectacle that is Winnie's life. As before, I really enjoyed the Nightmares and all of the lore that Winnie recounts to us. I'm happy to report that answers to previous mysteries/quandries are resolved here!
Caitlin Davies does a fantastic job of convincing the listener that Winnie is indeed a teenager. And because of her performance, TWN was a breeze to read.
Overall a great series for upper middle grade and high school, particularly if they love a creature feature!

If you love historical fantasy with magical realism, then you'll likely love The Stone Witch of Florence. For me, its often a mixed bag; had there not been magic this would've be a harder read for me.
The characters are likable, the environment, and the travesty of the times felt very realistic (as far as my knowledge goes). I enjoyed the magic system involving the stones and really just wanted like 30% more of that.
Rasche's writing is effortless, though at times it feels a bit weighed down with too much detail, too much "telling."
A solid witchy/healer tale.

I liked the premise of The Crimson Crown. I looove a fairytale retelling and a good orgins story. I'll champion a villian-to-be all day. Overall, this was a good book. The ending saved it for me. It just felt too long and repetitive. I swear at least a third of the 400+ pages consisted of the MC, Ayleth, lamenting evvvverything and going of the same 3 streams of thought: lack of sister, lack of power, lack of love. Like, over and over, with little to no variation.
I did thoroughly enjoy Nettle and Roland.
Not sure if theyre presence was enough to make me want to continue this duology, though.

You had me at "Death Talker"
In the Hour of Crows was a bingeable treat for me. I was immediately engrossed in this small, Appalachian town of Black Fern. The vibes were everything; dark and shrouded in superstition yet somehow warm and homey. The writing was beautiful and forlorn.
It wasn't hard for me to become overly invested in Weatherly and her heart that beats fiercely for her family and friends. Finding justice for her cousin, Adaire, was a need.
The magics are subtle and believable; a sticky web of earth, soul, and religion.
And let's not forget about The Crow and the yearning.
I'd be shocked if this doesn't get adapted to screen.
Elmendorf has sold me on any future endeavors.

Narrators: Graham Rowat & Jennifer Pickens
Christmas Crimes at the Mysterious Bookshop was a delightful Christmas Crime Anthology. A perfect read/listen to cozy up with or, my personal favorite, to work on puzzles to. I especially like that the bookshop is REAL. I love that each tale is written as a little piece of the Bookshop's lore.
Rowat's narration lent a very curmudgeonly air to the voices of various unreliable, and often unlikeable, characters, which I very much enjoyed.
Jennifer Pickens gave a very calming yet shrewd performance, befitting of her characters.
If I ever hit NYC, the Mysterious Bookshop is officially on my list of must visit bookstores!

A fun, heartfelt read that's wonderfully written. It wasn't hard to get attached to the various characters and animals. This will definitely be a series that I read to my kiddos when theyre a bit older.
