I think I may need to read the 3rd book to have a complete opinion on this book in the Southern Reach series because, in all honesty, I thought it was just 'ok.' The atmosphere, while wonderfully and described in detail, was a bit too close to real life for my taste to the point where it got a little mundane in certain areas. I didn't really care that much about the characters in one either. Will definitely add a note to this review on whether or not my opinion changed after reading the 3rd book.

I will go to my grave with hatred for this story and it's frustrating how many times it's been adapted and/or re-imagined.

I very much enjoyed the balance of social awareness with superhero personas. All of the stories, regardless of length, did a great job with introducing characters while also showing more personal sides to them that may not normally come out in their respective series (the only character with a focus that I was very familiar with was Storm). A great way to introduce to new characters to younger readers.

LOVED THIS COLLECTION OF STORIES! Even the one page-ers were fantastic! Fun array of characters. Humorous while still within the heroic vein. Perfect way to showcase that women can still be themselves while also being badasses!

I think they definitely got creative with tailoring stories that we all know and love to fit the theme of The Avengers without being too different from the original work. I also thought the artwork for each story was different while still being lovely to look at. My only issue is that they did a lot of repeat characters, which I think might have been based around which characters were popular at the time, but it’s now like there weren’t any other characters that they could have used.

Really enjoyed this collection despite the focus on the core group of X-Men that everyone knows and loves. If you're a fan of the 90s animated series, this is a great book to pick up!

This was absolutely the best combination of stories from the 'fairy tales' releases because of the story choices they made for the reimaginings. Not only did they choose 2 stories everyone knows and loves (Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella), but they also chose 2 tales of international folklore that entices you to read more about the real stories.

TW for anyone who has been in an abusive (of any sort) relationship. I didn’t think it was possible to hate a fictional character as much as I hate Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter but I guess I needed to read this book in order to hate Sam. While it was inspiring to watch Julia’s coming out journey, it was incredibly painful to read (for a majority of the book) about her dysfunctional relationship with Sam. I love Davis’ writing style and it’s wonderful to get a personal look into queer relationships. Just sucked that we see Julia suffer more than she is happy.

I went into this with the full expectation that it was going to be more on the fun comedic side of YA, but boy was I wrong in the best way possible. My knowledge of Catwoman has pretty much only been from her film and tv portrays (which are all obviously very different from each other), and I really enjoyed having this book as a great comic intro for me because it absolutely makes me want to read more of her story throughout the years. Highly recommend for YA readers and adult readers as well.

Kept me engaged from beginning to end (and I'm normally not a Batman fan)! Fantastic in a mystery/thriller sense. Gorgeous artwork. And every single character had its place in the book no matter how brief. Highly recommend for anyone looking to take a step into Gotham on page.
