Hard to not compare this to the masterpiece that is The Guest List because obviously they’re very different books. There were a few parts that I didn’t particularly think were necessary to the overall plot, but otherwise I still really enjoyed this book and the fucked up-ness that was revealed.

I thought this would be a fun little Christmas mystery but nope. The plot was all over the place. Half the time I wasn't sure which character was being focused on. And the overall motive literally didn't even make sense to the point where there needed to be an epilogue that literally explained how a random character that wasn't mentioned until the end was the culprit. Also, this was pretty heavy on the 'stoners are bad people' trope and I definitely do not agree with that idea.

So normally I'm not against a slow-burn pace for books, but I feel like this was a bit too slow for the story it was trying to do. I feel like by the time I got super invested in the story it was over. This absolutely had the potential to be a decent full-length book and I'm hoping for an expanded story or sequel in the future.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. This had potential to be Hallmark level corny, and while there are some parts that are like that (expected for a holiday themed romance), I really enjoyed the non-romance related plot. I also appreciate that author chose to make her main character a chronic illness sufferer, because I feel like I haven't read any romances with this character trait (recs appreciated).

Fantasy is one of my hit or miss genres, but I will say that this book is definitely one of the better ones I have read. I thought the story was perfectly paced and exciting enough to keep me engaged throughout my reading. I loved how each character was able to hold their own, and I couldn’t help but have a soft spot for Bonedog. And I really enjoyed the humorous parts that were weaved in because I feel like they gave this book more personality that other ones I’ve read.

This bordered the 'slightly-too-YA-for-taste-as-an-adult-reader', but I still thought it was really cute and wouldn't be surprised if it got turned into a movie on one of the streaming services.

I really liked that the author was not afraid to really voice her opinions regarding people's (especially the people around her) reactions to discussing grief and death in this book. I also enjoyed the fact that they included quotes and reminders for times where the grief hits a little harder so the readers can feel a bit of reassurance. But most of all, I love the emphasis on everyone processes grief differently because it's so true yet easy to forget.

This definitely had the potential to be a great political commentary graphic novel, but I feel like the overall story needed to be expanded upon in order to achieve that. I did really like the concept and the artwork was gorgeous so it gets a nod in my book.

Definitely could have been a little shorter for pacing purposes and the ending was straight out of a Hallmark movie, but this was still fun and a great way to start off the holiday season.
