I know this is supposed to be brilliant, and I thought the beginning and the end absolutely were. I just had a hard time slogging through the middle. I would say this is one I should read again to give it another chance, but I already know I'm not going to.
Yes, she can write. And yes, her stories are hilarious (fortune cookie costume, maxi pad band-aid, Baby Nubbins). I still spent about 1/3 of the time shaking the book and yelling, "What are you THINKING???" This is no criticism of her writing, just that it was exhausting for me to "watch" someone trying so hard to reconcile two incompatible lifestyles.
This was my first foray into Steampunk, with zombies thrown in for good measure. It was a fun read, I liked the characters, but I don't know that I would seek out the rest of the series. The genre, though, is a lot of fun and I'll definitely try some more titles.
Normally I love Polly Horvath--Everything on a Waffle is fabulous--but this book just left me cold. I thought it was boring, unfocused, and I really had a hard time getting into it.
