This was very informational. The narrative was great, but the history felt more textbook than I was expecting. Still good and I learned a lot!

Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This was good but not something I’d recommend to everyone. There is a lot of addiction (main character is struggling with alcohol). I thought the writing was good and liked the overall plot, but the execution wasn’t there for me. I found all of the characters to be annoying.

LOVE! I love a quirky messy main character. I didn’t like Miles at first but he snuck up on me - I loved him by the end.

Late to the party on this one but I loved! I love the format of the storytelling and unraveling Monique and Evelyn’s stories.

A really well written book about migrant experiences, showing how seeking a new life often means leaving family and home behind. The ending left me hanging and I would have loved a tad more closure, but still an excellent book

W o w Jordan is amazing. The crap she went through with Coach X. I am so glad athletes are shining more light on how effed the competitive athlete world is. Jordan's story exemplifies perseverence and strength.

I usually don’t like short stories, but I really enjoyed this collection! Each story was so unique but the common thread was clear. I loved the different POVs and tones to each. Some were funny while others were serious. Overall really enjoyed!

Her best work yet. Love when the guy falls first. The swimming and diving aspects were fun! Perfect level of steam.

This book is so well written. As a white native Memphian that grew up in the suburbs, I learned about a lot of new things about the Douglass neighborhood, which provided a new perspective for me. I didn’t have friends or family that lived in this area, so reading about this through the book’s lens was informative. The plot was overall good, but some parts were a little slow for me.
