I enjoyed other books by this author and expected to enjoy this one, too, especially since the story involves some of my favorite tropes. But the writing felt just so... clumsy? Artificial? I just couldn't get into it, so I stopped trying.

I went in expecting entertaining rich people drama. What I got was rich people drama that just... failed to entertain. Or call up any emotional response whatsoever in me, really. Must be something about narration. 

I will 1000% come back to this book later—it looks really promising! But right now, it's a bit too daunting for me.

Normally, I love dark academia novels, but this one just wasn't clicking with me. And given that I've already slogged through a few not-really-enjoyable reads lately and there's my huge TBR pile towering over me... I've decided there's no reason to slog through this one.

About 10 chapters in, and the pacing manages to be both incredibly slow and choppy, making it hard for me to maintain focus. Also, I just can't connect with the main character.

I hope to come back to this book at some point in the future. But the middle of a heatwave isn't really the best time for me to read outside of my usual genres, it seems. 

I just can't connect with the story. Something about the writing keeps throwing me off (maybe the sudden mid-scene POV changes?). I might try this book again later, because there's certainly some interesting stuff packed into the story. But for now, I'd rather go read something else.

100% going to finish this book at some point in the future. It's just that I belatedly realized that well, I've just finished a worldbuilding-heavy novel with lots of gods in it, and this is also a worldbuilding-heavy novel with lots of gods in it. My brain is trying to confuse the two. Oops.

Sorry, but I can't. -_- This book looked incredibly promising. The prologue hinted at a good story. The premise is interesting. I always love twists to the Chosen One trope. But the writing is just... not good, and at least through the first 20% the plot sticks way too close to the trope it's trying to subvert. Maybe it gets better further in, but I don't have the patience to find out.

Beautifully written, but as I got through a few chapters, I realized I'm in the entirely wrong brainspace for this book. I'll revisit it later.
