I liked the sequel. I liked Fate’s character even if he was the “villain” of the story. I loved the banter between him and Blythe even as minimal as it was. The cover/synopsis of the last book kind of gave away the ending so I was a bit annoyed that he believed so firmly that Sigma was Life. Also Blythe’s likeness to Life’s painting seemed to go unnoticed to everyone, which was also annoying.
With Fate saying he would court Sigma for a month I would have thought their dates would have been more frequent.
I really liked Foxglove Manor and the ghosts that resided there even it was sad that Sigma had to leave Blythe and the family when her father was in jail. The ghosts were really interesting with what they could and couldn’t do and how they acted, (calm or violent).
I am excited to read about Blythe in the next book and she how their relationship develops, a little enemies to lovers.

Honestly a bit disappointed by this book. It took me about halfway to really get into it. There was a bunch of filler it seemed like that did not move the plot forward. My favorite chapters were Parisa’s because it felt like we actually learned things.
I also did not like the second plot to come so far at the end of the book. I am confused why Tristan never told anyone about Ezra or seeing him outside the wards, especially after Libby was taken. Like what?
The piece of Dalton that resided inside Dalton’s head is interesting and I wonder how he managed to lock that part of himself inside his head

Loved this book! Was the perfect gothic romance/mystery.
I loved all the characters from the beginning, especially death and his sassiness. I really liked their romance and how the relationship grew. Ballroom scene was the best hands down!
Sigma was such a relatable character even in the time period. On that note this book is like a darker gothic Bridgerton which I really loved.
The mystery of who was poisoning Blythe and who killed Lillian was engaging and never dragged on.
The story did go slightly predictable with Sigma thinking it was Byron and the ladies maid. I liked the twist but felt bad for the family if they were to find out it was Percy. Blythe being the worst as she was closest to him.
As well as Sylas was Death in human form, the window being the biggest clue. I never bought into the love triangle between them.

*Re-read*
Reread as an audiobook. Might be biased as this was my childhood dystopian series but I still enjoyed it the second time around.
I thought the robotic way of speaking was intentional and fit the story well. I liked seeing her character growth throughout the book, starting to question things. I liked the aspect of the forbidden love but the love triangle fell apart pretty quickly, we barely had any scenes of her match/with her best friend so it was one-sided.
But it’s not memorable. I cannot remember the names of characters. But it is nostalgic.
