HO HO HOOOOOOLY SHIT. First 5 star of 2024 comin in HOT bc this book is INCREDIBLEEEEEEE!
The audiobook is amazing! I was totally engrossed from the start and legit had to take multiple breaks near the end bc I was so stressed and hyped and anxious. The TWISTS! The TURNS! Such intricate worldbuilding and political scheming, all wrapped up into a murder mystery dang daaaaaang.
The CHARACTERS oh my god. I love Ikenna SO much! She’s so strong and confident and also hilarious. I LOVED the secondary cast, suuuuch a fun group! REID & IKENNA oooh they got me. They got me. CAYMAN????? WHAT A LEGENDARY PIVOT BY THAT MAN. WOW. Chance, rot in hell. Celine???? wtf girl wyd??? ENZO ILY DANIKA ILY HAYNES ILY GRAYSON EVEN U TOO WOWWWWW
I am SO excited to dive into the next book (would immediately if there wasn’t an audiobook waitlist) and am buying a physical copy ASAP.

I am trash for all of Ali’s books, they’re just so enjoyable to me. I’ve had a great time with every single one. I felt myself slipping into a slump after a string of DNFs, so I turned to this ARC bc I knew it wouldn’t let me down, and I was right!
This one was actually a bit more serious than her others, and heavier on the smut! Very cute tho, loved Eli and Rue together. Maybe more of a 3.5 but I don’t mind rounding up.
PS The Check & Mate reference made me extremely happy and makes me want to reread it immediately.
PPS ALSO with a character named Kaylee in LOTB AND Eli having the same bday as me…. Ali just gets me

JUDE & CARDAN FUCKING SERVEDDDD THANK U!!!!!! God I was GIGGLING I was BLUSHING I was KICKING MY FEET whenever they were on page. I’ve missed them so much. I hope Holly never stops writing about them bc I will gobble up EVERY CRUMB.

The Haunting of Hill House vibes are THERE! This hooked me pretty early on and had good pacing that kept me flipping pages. My interest dipped a bit towards the end because I was a bit confused about what was happening, but the last few chapters were really great! Themes of grief and family always get me, man. I don’t typically read much horror but I liked this!
