It started off really strong but it fell into the usual John Green plot device trap. Got very convoluted and felt very aimless. Good representation though. 

Nuanced and fraught but ultimately very sympathetic to its characters. Lahiri has a knack for writing low level despair and melancholy. I will definitely have to reread. 

This book will definitely require a reread. I'm still trying to process it. It was completely enthralling the entire time. 

Really did not care for the characters at all and the narrative felt unfulfilling. 

I picked this book up for the wrong reasons.

For some reason, I thought it would be an intergenerational tragedy (think in the vein of The God of Small Things, The Namesake, or A Thousand Splendid Suns). This is not the book I thought it was going to be. It's written a lot more like a science fiction/fantasy novel, with lots of dense prose and exposition. If you don't like that (like me) I do not suggest picking it up.

I couldn't really get into the characters. At all. Oscar is literally an incel, there's no way to move around that. The women in the book were vilified beyond belief. I understand the complexity of violence and trauma, but in this book it just piles up with no resolution. It was a drag to get through.

It should've stayed a short story.

Book was unberable to read. The audiobook was fantastic. 

Very light, but the issues it tackles felt a little brushed over. A sweet and easy read. 

Although this is a pretty sweet and easy read, I feel like the discussions of class were very surface level. Race does play a big part in this, and I think that discussion is fine, but when it comes to class (specifically the character of Jules), the ideas felt very underdeveloped and shallow.
