In this novel Florence - an aspiring writer - who is currently working as an assistant in a publishing house gets the opportunity of her life! At least that’s what she thinks when she takes on a new job with famous writer Maud Dixon whose identity is not know to the public. But when her new boss decides to go to Morocco for the research of the new Maud Dixon novel she will discover that she is greatly mistaken.
I was pleasantly surprised by this! I was really interested in how the story unfolded because especially Maud Dixon seemed pretty weird and suspicious right from the start. And the whole story stays interesting throughout! In my opinion, that was a proper thriller with great twist and an interesting story overall!
But please DO NOT read the full description on Goodreads. It spoils quite a big twist. I don’t understand why anyone would decide to put this in the synopsis!
Nonetheless, definitely a great story to recommend- even if you get a little spoiler reading the synopsis beforehand!

I have mixed feeling about this. The story itself was actually quite enjoyable but there were a few things that I didn’t enjoy throughout the book that I had to knock my rating down to three stars.
What I liked:
- Overall Storytelling: The story was actually quite and what I expected from a book with this type of title
- The book club: I really enjoyed that the book club was not just the way the women met but also important throughout the story
- Small town vibe: I could really picture the neighbour hood and the people living in this area which was quite enjoyable
What I didn’t like:
- Family Dynamics: I just absolutely hated how Patricia was treated - especially by her husband. I mean I get that this is supposed to be set in the 90s but that was just a little too much for me. Also how the women just ‚obeyed‘ their husbands was just something that made me a little mad and therefore not enjoyable for me. Also I didn’t really connect with any of the children and I think that was also partly due to the family dynamics.
- Missing explanations: Sometimes I just couldn’t follow their though process of Patricia and her book club friends (and husbands!)
- The length: I think a good junk of the book could have been cut

So, typically I don't really read memoirs - but I read (or rather listened) to this because I heard so much of it and because the title is really getting your attention!
I was never a big fan of iCarly but I did watch a few episodes of it and this shows how much is happening behind the scenes that you can't even imagine. I really hate how there is a whole industry for child actors who are pushed into a corporate world so early. This world is hard for most adults, so how can children deal healthily with this environment? I really think you do need a strong and supportive family to be able to work in this environment and still have a healthy childhood!
Telling her story Jennette really shows how strong of a person she is - even though I am sure this must have been a big struggle for her! I really hope for her that her own dreams come true and appreciate that she had the courage to tell her story!

I finally got around to reading this! It is the first book I am reading by Jennifer Hillier and I was expecting great things after all the praise her novels are getting currently. And I can honestly tell you that she really delivered with this one!
This story was gripping from the start and I couldn't really put it down. The writing is beautiful - even if the topics are definitely not most of the time. I got really invested in Geo's story and would recommend this book to any other thriller book lover out there.
Nonetheless, I do have to say that towards the end there was a point where a (big) part of the twist was really obvious but I am not sure if Jennifer Hillier even had the intention of hiding it anymore. I think I would have enjoyed it a little more if she left us in the dark a little bit longer. There was also another scene shortly before the ending in which I had to suspend my disbelief a little because of the sudden reveal of something that wasn't really explained before or after. That is also the only reason why I was debating giving this book four stars instead of five. But after all, I enjoyed my time with this so much - I decided on five stars (or 4.5 rounded up, if you want to be precise).
