This is the first history play I have read and I think it was easier to understand than his others.

So much fun!

Good for a quick look at the less-than-charming side of New England's roots. The writing is a little choppy and repetitive in places, but certainly gives an overview if you want to find more.

This series has the makings of a lot of fun, once the author gets over some of those "first book" jitters--trying to tell too much story at once, jumping from one idea to the next and assuming the reader followed along. Full disclosure--I have been reading this book on and off for almost ten months, so part of that might have been the lag in my reading as I went to pursue other topics. Still, the series has potential with lots of political intrigue, questions of morality, and,of course, swashbuckling.

What a delightful little piratical romp! Can't wait to read more about the whole crew. :)

I put this book on my "To Read" list at least a year ago, but didn't remember why when I started going down the list to find the books at my local library. I think not knowing what I was getting into (other than I'd been interested in it at some point) was the right course of action. Kilmer-Purcell tells his own story, and that of Aqua, with a great deal of honesty, without being self-pitying or apologetic. This is a book about drag queens, yes, but also about growing up, taking chances, and realizing that loving someone doesn't mean they're the right someone for you.
