I loved this thriller, it is full of twists and turns and a finale that I didn't see coming, everything I love about a thriller.
We hear the story from multiple POV, one from DS Becca Vincent, and her partner, a 'Super Recogniser' Joe, and then from the serial killer themselves.
The opening scene sets the rest of the book up, we start with a packed tube station and a murder, DS Becca Vincent is there on her way to work, but she is quite far back and has her headphones in, so she doesn't realise there is a problem until the police show up.
She is having struggles in her home life, she has a daughter with special needs and her mother has moved in with her to help, she is finding it difficult to juggle her home life with her career, and now it is going to get twice as tricky.
Joe is a 'super recogniser' (I had to google it myself, and it is an actual thing) He can look at a face and store it in his memory, and then pull it out maybe years later with a name.
Who knew?? Well Becca didn't for one, but Joe is the man that she is partnered with to try and catch this serial killer, who seems to have some sort of pattern, if only they could work out what it is!
Some grizzly murders and some great twists in this one, and a big WTF which I always enjoy.
John Marrs has written some great thrillers, and although this is not my absolute favourite of his, it is still a fantastic read.

I really enjoyed this story and it is the second I have read from this author.
Tess DeMello is happy, she is engaged to a wonderful man, and is excited to become his wife, her husband to be is a doctor and is very passionate about his work, so much so, he hot foots it to Chicago to help out with the Polio epidemic that seems to be rife there.
She naturally misses him, and his time there seems to be getting longer and longer, each call she gets from him seems to be him changing the date that he will be coming home, this turns into months.
He friend tries to snap her out of her slump by inviting her to go away with her for a couple of days to her aunts house who lives out of town, but when they get there, it seems that her aunt has had to leave for a few days and has left instructions for them to have a good time, unfortunately there are also 2 men staying in the house with them.
Tess is very cautious about this, but they soon start chatting and the gentlemen invite them out for a friendly meal, which turns into an evening of bad choices for Tess, too much alcohol and another bad decision leads her into being single, pregnant and alone.
After finding out where the father of her unborn child lives, Tess packs a bag and leaves to find him, Henry does the right thing and moves her in with him, and promptly marries her.
But things are not right in the house, Henry doesn't seem to be the man she thought he was, and why doesn't he want to spend any time with her?
A fab little mystery that had me guessing all the way through.
A great read, I personally thought that Tess was not totally to blame in this situation, Yes she had drunk too much alcohol and was a little worse for wear, but I didn't really see any consent going on, I don't remember Tess saying No, but she also didn't say Yes, and I think really that Henry took advantage of the situation.
🎧🎧 - Narration was perfectly done by Susan Bennett and I will certainly be looking out for more of her narration.

Another brilliant read by Mr Shusterman, who is becoming one of my favourite YA authors, his stories are always new, unique and interesting.

Obviously if you cannot die then the world would become over populated, this is where the Scythes come in.
Scythes are death, they are trained in the art of death, you don't know when it will be, but one day while you are sitting around the table having your evening meal with your family, or on the way to work on the bus, or driving your car, you will be met, and killed by a Scythe!
But who chooses who is going to die?, well the world is now being run by an AI called The Thunderhead, the Scythes are instructed and they will find you to "Gleen" you, the only way that you can actually die, or they can randomly choose someone, after all they do have targets to meet!
Because of this the Scythes are treated as celebrities, they will never have to wait in line, or pay for their meals, they are waited on hand and foot, presumably to try and get a pardon from them.
After finding a couple of teenagers that Scythe Faraday deem to be suitable for apprenticeships, Rowan and Citre have big decisions to make, do they take the job, do they want to be killers? If they do then they can get immunity for their family, but it is a big gamble to take, because only one of them can be a Scythe, so what happens to the loser?
I loved the world building in this story, and Shusterman always plants the 'What if' seed into all of his stories, they make great BookClub reads.

When I wake up, all my friends are dead.
The first line of the book…….makes you want to read it right??
Be warned that this is, and has very graphic detail on drug addiction, if you are a recovering addict then this book could be extremely triggering for you, and you would be best to stay away from it until you are in a better mindset.
If you are OK reading this sort of thing, then this one is well worth a credit.
The story follows our MC Mickey Catalan, the narrator of this story, a young high school student that has a pretty good life, she is the star catcher in her Softball team and they are probably going to make it to the local history books with a win in a large tournament in the upcoming season.
We meet Mickey in the months before that hard hitting first line of the book, her and her friend are involved in a car crash as she is driving home from Softball practice, her friend damages her arm, and Mickey badly damages her leg.
She is obviously not able to play softball until her leg has healed properly and she is given a timescale for this, 12 weeks, but this is just before the new Softball season starts and she doesn’t want to be sidelined.
She is given medication (Oxy) for the obvious pain that she is in, but Mickey realises quite soon that if she takes more, then she can push herself a little bit harder, and will therefore be fit in time for the new season.
Unfortunately her problems are only just beginning, unbeknown to her, Oxy is is highly addictive, she is taking it for the pain, but she is soon not in so much pain, but still taking the tablets.
She begins to up her dosage as she becomes more and more addicted to the high, when she runs out of her medication she needs more, immediately! but her prescription shows that she should still have at least 2 weeks supply left, what is she to do?
This is where things start to go more and more downhill for Mickey, she buys them from someone, who then becomes friends with her, and introduces her to other people that can ‘help’
This book doesn’t pull any punches, it is brutal and dark, you see the slow downward spiral of Mickey, how she becomes disengaged with her other life and starts to slowly become a shadow of her former self.
This is a Young Adult book, but it really didn’t read that way to me, yes it is about young adults, but that is as far as the YA went for me. I think that it is an extremely important book, it shows that drug addicts don’t always look like the images that you see on TV, they don’t always end up laying in a park or a back-street somewhere, that can look quite normal and function just as well as you and me, and you would never know. It is only when the addiction starts to get out of hand, that the red flags and the warning signs start showing.
🎧🎧 – Brilliantly narrated by Brittany Pressley a new to me narrator, but one I will definitely be looking out for again.

Well this one was a complete wonderful surprise for me, and I love that.
It is completely nothing that I would have picked up, but as I fell down the #BookTube rabbit hole (as you do) this one kept popping up time and time again.
So off to Goodreads I go to read some other reviews....I like to be certain!
With an average of 4.29 stars out of 5 I was certain that this was going to be another one for my "Everyone loved it but me" shelf, but nope
I LOVED it!!!
The story follows 2 friends Eli and Victor between past and present.
Ten years ago Eli and Victor meet in college and become roommates, and soon become firm friends, they are inseparable, and when a college assignment allows them to work together to discover whether EO's (Exta-Ordinaries) exist, they follow the clues, and find out not only the truth about EO's, but how to MAKE them, this also adds fuel to the bitter jealousy that is hiding in both of them, and does so for years.
The present tells the story of a recently escaped convict by the name of Victor, who is trying to find his old buddy turned Nemisis Eli, he is looking to find him for some good old fashioned Retribution!
Now, what is an EO I hear you saying?
Well an Extra-Ordinary (or EO for short) is a person with supernatural powers, and how do you get them?? Well you have to read the book obviously, but let me tell you this...
Forget everything you've read about Heros and Villians, because this book blurs the lines of each of them and flips them over and over till you don't know which way is up, this is not the sweet Clark Kent that turns into Superman kind of read, oh no, this is dark, violent and bloody brilliant!
There were some fantastic characters in this story, from the protagonists, to the fabulous secondary characters and some great EO's that were frankly downright frightening!
I was kind of catapulted back to an 80's movie that I loved (which was then ruined by a remake a few years ago, sigh)
Anyhoo, as you may already know I am not a Magic/Fantasy/Paranormal kind of chick, I've read some I have loved, but most of the time I've tried...and hated them!
This one, well this one isn't really any of those genres, but it is too, it is difficult to describe, but the author herself describes the book as X-Men + Hannibal, and that is a great definition.
I guess you had better just grab it and read it and see for yourself!

Kate Smith (aka Mercedes Lee Loveletter is an Erotic Romance writer and unfortunately has got a touch of writers block, well I say a touch, but nothing has popped into her head for ages and she needs to get the final installment with her International best selling Bed & Beakfast series out on the shelves ASAP.
She finds her Nirvana one day when she pops into the Tire Depot to get some work done on her car.
While she is in the Customer waiting room sipping on the complimentary coffee and munching on the freshly baked cookies, she manages to get thousands of words down on a page!
After borrowing friends, and families cars to take back to the Tire Depot, Kate finds her writing mojo again....the thing is she runs out of cars to take in!
What's a girl to do, apart from sneaking the employees entrance and pretend to be waiting!
As ninja like as Kate thinks she is, she isn't! And it doesn't take long for her to be spotted by Miles, an employee at the Depot.

Kate has recently split from her Douchecanoe of an ex who is currently still residing at the house in the basement refusing to leave, hence the writers block and the bad Joojoo.
After some hilarious near misses at the Tire Depot ( The pizza delivery had me howling with laughter) Miles and "Mercedes" start a friends with benefits relationship, all for book research obviously!
The witty one-liners and even the secondary characters in this book were just perfect, I loved every second of listening to this book, thank you Amy 😘

A look into the world of Zu, how she ended up at the camps and what happened to her at the end of the last book.
Did I love it...nowhere near as much as the other 3, it hasn't ruined the series for me, but I also think that the book was unnecessary too.

Very clever and enjoyable read with some brilliantly written characters and some great WTF moments.
Really really interesting premise, but I'm not sure that it delivered everything that I needed for it to be brilliant, unfortunately it fell a little flat for me, which is a shame because it could have been fantastic.
