This will be the 4th book of John Marrs that I have read, and it certainly won't be the last.

I love the way that he builds the story, and that you get really invested in the characters lives. And I'm super excited about his book "The One" that is soon to be a major Netflix series.

𝔹𝕦𝕔𝕜𝕝𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 𝕚𝕟 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕒 𝕓𝕦𝕞𝕡𝕪 𝕣𝕚𝕕𝕖!

Set in a not-too-distant-future, Britain is now seeing self-drive cars on our roads every day, they are the saviour of our highways, as they help the environment, as well as cutting down traffic jams, they can see possible problems ahead, so will take alternative routes.

You can just get in the car, and relax, maybe sit and read the daily paper, maybe finish putting on your make-up, or because the windows turn opaque and let you play videos, you can sit and scroll through Facebook and Twitter on the way to work...Sounds great right?

And it is, everyone has embraced the future, except some, some people really don't like these cars at all!

Libby is one of these people, she is called for jury duty, but not for what you think, these juries consist of  just one member of the public, and they are held in secret to discuss accidents involving Driverless cars, and also to determine who (or what) is at fault.

Headed by the obnoxious MP Jack, the trial is in full swing when the hacker joins the conversation, and he makes it clear very quickly who is in charge!

You see, it turns out that the cars that "could never be hacked" actually could be, and the hacker will show you what happens when you do not pay attention.

A live fed has been set up on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram showing the courtroom and all of the Jurors, it also shows the random 8 people that are now stuck in their cars and are all driving to the same location, the exact location, meaning that they will all crash...but the hacker will allow one person to live, who decides that....Oh...it's you!!

A wonderful read with a scary look into our near future.

I’m super happy to bring you my review for this fabulous read, I love books with ‘quirky’ characters, and although it isn’t at all the same, if you loved the book Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, and the Rosie project by Graeme Simsion, chances are you’re going to love this one too.

Why Did You Pick It Up Vicci?

Well I grabbed it because it was the June pick for Book of the Month for Reece Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Book Club Hello Sunshine, and so far she hasn’t steered me wrong, and she didn’t this time either.

Susan Green, 45, likes to be in control, of her life, her work, and her love life.

She lives in her one-bedroom flat in London which is perfectly suited to her as she can keep everything organised and functional, she works in an office environment, and is a little bit of an enigma to her work colleagues, as she doesn’t have anything like a social media account, she wouldn’t stoop so low!

No, she is happy as she is at work, and socialising outside of the office with her work friends is a no-no, in fact she doesn’t see why anyone would want to do this! She’s happy just getting on with her work, and looking after her succulents, i.e. Cacti / Cactuses.

She has an arrangement with a man for a no-strings-attached relationship, that provides cultural and other, more intimate, benefits, however she does NOT want, or NEED a relationship, as it causes problems.

“Dealing with members of the opposite sex isn’t that dissimilar from training a dog; you need to be firm and persistent.”

Her brother Edward is the “Golden Child” and she has always been slightly resentful of him because of this, he doesn’t work and hasn’t contributed to the help with their mother’s care during her illness.

When their mother suddenly passes away, Susan is horrified to find out at the reading of the will, that her mother has left the family home to her brother, not only that, he has moved his friend into the house, and he SMOKES!! This simply Will. Not. Do

And then to add to a bad situation, she finds out that she is pregnant at 45!

I really enjoyed this story, Susan was quite difficult to like at the beginning, because she came across very emotionless, however as you begin to get to know her better, you start to realise that this is part of her quirky personality, and she copes with things this way.

I listened to the Audiobook, and the narration for this was fabulous, Katherine Manners did a fantastic job with the accents and the characters.

I’m super happy to bring you a review for a new series that I think is going to keep me busy for a while as I couldn’t tear myself away from it.

Sorry for being MIA for a while, Real Life bitch-slapped me in the face for a while and I kind of got stuck in a bit of a slump!

But I think I’m back and ready to make up some lost time (and reviews!)

Why did you pick it up Vicci?

Well, I saw lots of people talking about this book in a Facebook group that I am in, and you know how I don’t like to be left out of anything!!

Well, I have found myself a new series to binge, I can’t wait to read the next one in this series, I was on the edge of my seat for most of it.

A genre that I wouldn’t usually read was being banded around on a FB group that i am in, then I heard the narrator, Julia Whelan…..and I was invested.

I promptly bagged the whole series on KU and upgraded the Audio’s for £3.47 each!!! what a bargain!

Told in the POV of Cassie, we see her in her home town of New York, there seems to be some sort of “flu” epidemic that is sweeping the city, so people are being quite cautious, but until she gets a call from her friend explaining that people are dying and there is no cure does she really start to worry.

Her friends tells her to get out of town immediately, so her and her friends try and do just that, except it turns out that the people that are dying from this epidemic, have not done being dead yet!

This was such a great story, I was so invested in all of the characters, and they were all brilliantly narrated by the awesome Julia Whelan, one of my favourite narrators, who bought every one of them to life in my head.

This is not a gory book, there is a little gruesome talk, but nothing too bad, if you liked The Walking Dead then you will probably like this, as it is about a group of people trying to survive.

Try it, You never know, you might like it!!

I'm super happy to bring you a review for this fab read, that quite frankly scared the pants off of me, the thought of a stranger just  being in your house when you arrive home makes me a bit 😲

Why Did You Pick It Up Vicci?

Well for one, if you've never read a book by Shalini Boland before then you are really missing out on some great reads, and also have you read the blurb to this book??!!

So I don't mind telling you that this one terrified me, and I don't really know why!

I think it is something to do with the fact that Tessa Markham comes home from work one day, let's herself in and makes her way into the kitchen, only to find a small child in there, who turns around and says "Are you my Mummy?"

Now I'm sure if I was in that situation in real life, I wouldn't have said ARGHHHHH!!! (or something vaguely similar) but I did, those words just took me back to early 2000's and that horrid Doctor Who episode called The Empty Child, and he wasn't cute....he wasn't cute at all!!



Anyhoo I digress.

Tessa finds the said (non evil) child in her kitchen and panics, what does she do? Who does she tell? and where the hell did he come from?

After calling the police and getting the side eye from them, she suddenly gets labelled as a child abductor, and people that know her, start looking at her in a different light.

Did she steal that child?, Is she what people are calling her?, or is there something sinister going on?

She doesn't remember taking him, but her mind has been a little distracted after her recent tragedy, so who knows.

The press hound her, and her ex boyfriend isn't helping much either.

Be prepared to whizz your way through this one, it's a cracker!

I listened to the Audiobook narrated by Katie Villa who did a brilliant job , I will certainly be looking out for other titles that she has narrated.

Hello from a surprisingly sunny UK, the sun is out, and because it doesn’t happen very often, we don’t know what to do with ourselves LOL.

So here I am to bring you a review for this little cracker of a thriller, that will keep you on the edge of your seat, right until the very end!

Well, I was doing my usual picking-too-many-to-read-and-review-in-time choices on NetGalley (As you do!) and I read the blurb to this one, and I just couldn’t pass it by, it sounded fantastic, and just up my street.

2. Pay a ransom…….. a staple in a kidnapping right?
3. Kidnap a child…….are you intrigued now?
4. Call that child’s parents and give them the same information that you are getting right now.
5. Hold that kidnapped child somewhere, until the parents of the child have paid the ransom, and also kidnapped another child…….I can see your eyebrows raising!
6. Until all of the above have been completed, Kylie will be held.
7. And here is the kicker!! – After Rachel has followed the rules above, the child of the woman on the phone will be released!
And so on, and so on…

You see, what is so clever about this book, is that it plays on the “what would you do for your child” part of you, and because you are there with Rachel all of the way, it makes you think ‘what would I do’?

Would I do anything to protect my child? Abso-bloody-lutely, but the thought of putting another parent through the same trauma as you are going through right now is just heartbreaking. And you know that when you get told they will kill your child, you believe them, because their own child is at risk too!

You’ll never look at one of those silly chain letters again!!

Actual rating 3.5*

I was very excited to read this book, however it did seem to drag a little and i didn't feel that i was pulled into the story, I was able to put the book down and pick it up again maybe days later.
But if I had been thoroughly dragged into the story then I would have probably finished the book in one sitting.

The story was good, and the twist was cool, but it didn't hold enough POW to keep me invested in the story.

Slow burners are great, and i can totally see why people are raving about this book,, it just unfortunately was not for me this time.
