Review

I have just written a massively long review of this book and it got deleted I give up...........

This book has been on my TBR list for ages because the cover reminded me of The Sea of Tranquility, which I loved.

So the old don't judge a book by its cover is totally true.

Second time lucky here is a review for the audio version of........

The first thing that I want to let you know is that I am standing here cooking my dinner with my earphones in and reading this review out loud onto an e-mail to copy and paste later.
I just written the first line of the audio book review and forgot the title of the book, make of that what you will......

Okay review number 2

Amy as well as her mother and father or mum and daddy as she lovingly call them throughout the book..... (snore zzzz) is frozen, put into a plastic type coffin and put onto a spaceship that is heading to another planet!!

still can't remember the book title. ...

On the big spaceship are lots and lots of people who are lead by a man called Eldest who actually is the oldest person on the ship. Are you still with me.....?......Good

The second in command on the very large spaceship is wait for it Elder who is is basically Eldest's backup for when he snuffs it.
He is however, not the second eldest on the ship go figure!!

Now although Elder is second in command he knows absolutely nothing about how the ship runs and is learning from Eldest.
( who takes over from Eldest if he accidentally falls down a flight of stairs and dies is not covered.!!!!!!)

Anyway I digress back to Amy.

She's accidentally thawed out and can't be refrozen due to ............stuff.

The first person to see her is of course Elder who as per most YA books has a case of insta love.

After that the book gets a little bit vague on the plot, and I have a few questions that didn't seem to be answered (unless I really wasn't paying attention........)

Ohh I remember the title of the book now its across the universe haha!

SpoilerOkay question 1

Why is there only one doctor for the whole ship? He seems to know everything about everyone, what happens when he dies he didn't seem to have a second in command.

2. When the big twist was revealed why did Amy not unfreeze her parents if she knew that she was never going to see them again?

3. What is with Eldest Elder thing? it really didn't make much sense, well the eldest did but..........

4. Why do they have to go to another planet? It's not explained in the book at all just that they have to go, I mean was there war was there a disease...........?? nothing.
(Or it may have been that I wasn't paying that much attention, and all of my questions, and more were actually answered)

All in all I think.....

Try it you might like it, you might not.
I personally think I am the latter and shall be removing it now from my TBR now file list immediately if not sooner!!.

This is a very sickly sweet story – it is literally boy bumps into girl – stalks her in a sweet kind of way , they get together ,……and then don’t…… and then do.

It was an ok story and quite an easy listen, I would think that my mum would love it as it is quite Mills and Boony (is that a word?)

It is my first Dessen book and reading the other reviews one of the better ones ……….. I will reserve my judgement and try another one to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it was a little bit too sweet for my liking.

Perhaps there will be a serial killer or something in some of the other ones which will peak my interest !!

I quite liked the characters, Remy is not the normal sweet no sex before marriage kind of girl, she has smoked and shock horror had more than 1 conquest!!

Dexter is cool, he is clumsy and doesn't beat around the bush.
A couple of the other characters are cool too, little john was sweet and his crush on his boss was cute.
Ted was just grumpy throughout the whole book haha.
Hate Spinnerbait !

Sing You Home

Jodi Picoult

DID NOT FINISH

DNF Personal reasons nothing against the book at all.

was quite good. more aimed at a young reader, I will read the others though to see what happens with Mary and the Magill

Ok, picture the scene..........

You decide to treat yourself and order yourself a lovely takeaway, your absolute favorite, mine would be Chinese.........yummmmm

BUT you sit there for over an hour , waiting for the bloody thing to arrive, and then when it does you realize that you have gone past the hunger and you just sort of pick at it? I mean you enjoy it, but it's not the same as shoving it down your throat and saying mmmmm mmmm between every bite.

And then to top it all off the bloody idiots have forgotten the chips !!!!

Well that's how i felt about this book, to be honest i wasn't that fussed on the first one really, i was really looking forward to it and it had sat on my TBR pile for ages, (I have to admit i am a bit of an average star rating junkie, more that a 4 i'm in!)

Sooooo, the book sort of starts up just after the other one had finished, but again it really doesn't explain the whole faction thing, i mean why can't you be truthful, kind, clever and wreckless at the same time? why does this make you a bad person, why is there a need to wipe out these people, and what the hell does Divergent mean anyway???

The romance didn't outweigh the book too much as it does in other books, but i wish that Triss would make her mind up about whether his name is Four or Tobias, i mean just choose one for goodness sake.

So the Dauntless are once again the badass of the book and then it all goes political about the different factions and also introduces more factionless characters.

Anyway, it was an ok read, but it would have been better with chips !

So, there is a house in which there live psychics, not the 'did you ever have a friend who's name began with M ' type, but the ones that will tell you that when you kiss your first love he will die!

So poor old Blue ( love the name BTW ) has grown up knowing this all of her life and has never found the urge to kiss anyone especially not a Raven boy.

Until she meets Gansey.

Other things included in the book.

Clairvoyants
Helicopters
Hocus pocus
A very dodgy english accent ( Think Mary Poppins! )
All in all though I really liked it and will definitely read the rest in the series.

Move over Tris and Tobias (Four) and make way for June and Daniel (Day).

This was SOOOOO much better than divergent in all sorts of ways, better characters, better story ………

This is a ‘who done it?’ kind of book, although it was quite easy to wok out who did it.

June is  young bright (brighter than most) upper class girl who is used to hunt for the killer of her brother who she believes is a rebel called Day (Daniel).

Day, is a young lower class boy who is basically on the run but is wanted by the authorities for crimes against the government.

The book flips between Day and Junes POV which I really likes and the narration was really good with the male / female voices.

Will be reading this series with interest and can’t believe that it was in the DNF pile for TCF Monopoly.

I enjoyed this and have the others in the series to listen to, I did work it out about half way in though, although I wasn't 100%.
Not as gruesome as I thought it was going to be, I was warned to have a strong stomach (perhaps years of Stephen King have steadied me lol) But enjoyable just the same, and my 1st finished book of 2014!

I really enjoyed this book, at the beginning it was quite slow but all of a sudden it kicks in and then you are hooked.

The book focuses on 3 main characters Cecilia, Rachel and Tess.

Cecilia is like Monica from friends, super organised. Everything has its own place (she even has an app on her iPhone in case she misses something)

Her daughter is slightly obsessed with historical events, (to the point where Cecilia and her husband think she may be autistic)
This months obsession is the Berlin Wall and Mrs organisation has an actual piece of the wall upstairs in a box in the attic.

While in the attic she accidently knocks over some of her husbands paperwork and finds a letter, addressed to her but only to be opened in the event of his death but he is very much still alive ........what would you do??

Tess lives with her husband and little boy, she also owns a company with her husband and her cousin Felicity

Felicity used to be fat, really fat but has now slimmed down and is skinny and beautiful, and in love with Tess's husband.

Rachel, she has a lovely son with a gorgeous grandson who she loves dearly but has just been told that they are moving to NewYork for 2 yrs and she is devastated.

All 3 stories although separate, entwine themselves very cleverly and reveal secrets and lies between family and friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and have recommended it to my mum to listen to (which is a very high accolade)

Review

Edit for re read!

Ok review for the re read of The Fault in Our Stars.

My goodness I was a sobbing mess again, Hazel (Grace) and Gus (Augustus) are the loveliest couple ever.

Yes they don't talk like normal teenagers, yes the book is slightly pretentious but Oh my God it is beautiful.

My favourite character in the book is actually Isac, he made me laugh a lot, and he didn't have much to joke about!

There are so many quotes that can be put into my review, but I won't, I will just say Okay?

Original Review

i cried like a child I am however 39 years old, quite close to 40!
I love Hazel and I am in love with Augustus, the way that he communicates with Hazel is lovely.
After reading this book I immediately went to my friend google to try and find 'the' book which of course does not exist. I'm not sure whether I'm sorry about this I would have liked to have read the book.

Sooo after rubbing my sore red eyes and blowing my nose I have decided to let everybody know about this wonderful book.
Never before has a book made me cry but there's always a first for everything and this is mine!
So reading is my favorite thing to do, although I don't read I listen and this book was a pleasure to listen to.
