Women & Power: A Manifesto by Mary Beard

My first dabble into Beard's extensive backlist. A thought-provoking conversation starter about how women are treated in the political sphere and how it ties to Greco-Roman history. A little dry for a novella, though.

After languishing on my shelves for nine years, I finally gave this a shot... and thoroughly enjoyed it! Schwab is a hit-or-miss episode for me; yet this one grabbed me from the onset. I'm a little nervous to dive into the sequel when it ended satisfactorily, though.

For the third time, Levithan nailed it. An insightful novel exploring book bans in the US for a young audience. It was heartfelt, heart-wrenching, and heart-warming all at once. A new favourite.

And yes, I did sob ✌️

▷ Representation: achillean protagonists; Mexican love interest.

I can't do cheating in books, so this was an instant nope for me. The fact that I didn't, for a single nanosecond, feel one ounce of longing from Thalia meant this did nothing for me. Mutual pining or nothing for me.

I can't put my finger on why this didn't work for me; sadly everything from the overly cartoonish art to the sloppy way the plot weaved in Chinese mythology didn't work for me.

▷ Representation: Chinese protagonist and secondary charcters.

Jane Harper for kids-and I mean that as the highest compliment. A brilliant, gritty Australian thriller.

This superseded all of my expectations. I was wholly engaged from chapter one to the very end and flew through it in a single afternoon. The ending was a little rushed and half-hearted, but the overall experience was engaging and thrilling - exactly what you want from a mystery. I'll definitely be reading more from Clarke in the future.
