Most likely he was a damn sociopath, and for whatever reason, I found that endearing.

He was stalking me, and I was only upset about it because he was doing it because he had to, not because he wanted to.

... I might have been willing to follow his delusions because I liked him more than I should, but when he made it sound like there had been lots of other girls willing to do the same thing before me, it really turned me off. Crazy, I could deal with. Slutty, not so much.

She was thin, the way she had always been, in a beautifully elegant borderline-anorexic way.

Bashardoust's writing style did not seem to be work for everyone but the atmospheric way she crafted this clever retelling worked for me in so many ways. I agree that there were elements that could have been a little more - Nadia, the worldbuilding, its pacing - but the story as a whole was breathtaking. Her exploration of mother-daughter relationships was simply exquisite, and I know this story will stay with me for a long time.
