This book was like a warm (kinda shmexy) hug and exactly what I needed at the time. There's something about a swoon-worthy romance that is so light and invigorating that you can't help but fly right through the pages.
I loved the characters, and this definitely read like it was a standalone but also part of a wider series with these characters in the town all coming together, which I adore. I look forward to reading more of Gallant Lake's inhabitants in the future! Mack was fun and I thought it was awesome she was throwing caution to the wind and living life for herself, trying new things and not worrying what everyone else thought about it. Deputy Dan totally sounded like a cartoon character cutout at first but I loved that he had a kinda sketchy past but grew up and became a family man and hometown hero. It was interesting to see his struggles with that too. They made a really sweet pair.
Honestly the only thing I didn't quite love was when Dan dismissed what Mack told him about someone who was acting shady. It makes sense in a way being that it was someone he knew for so long and it was easier to dismiss it I guess than look critically at that person. I just couldn't help but to feel a little let down about how dismissive he instantly was about it though and wonder if it had came from another cop buddy or one of his homeboys if he would have not dismissed it all so quickly? It was truly a little detail but it just rubbed me the wrong way. I liked the drama at the end and I really liked that it wasn't over the top. It felt more realistic to me that way.
Dan's daughter was too freaking cute and totally deserves a shout out. I also thought it was awesome how Dan and the his ex had a close relationship and went extra lengths to keep a smooth thing going for their kid as a team, even with new spouses entering the picture. As a parent in a situation like that, it is something that's always been important to me and something I've strived for as well. I'd love to see that represented more! All in all a fun, light read that any romance lover would enjoy.

Seriously?! The cliffhangers in this series are out of control! I'm so unbelievably glad that I didn't start reading these books when they first came out because waiting to see what happened after each devastating, nail biting ending would probably have drove me insane! I will be starting book 5 immediately. I just hope book 5 ties everything together, answers all my many questions and even though I have this SICK feeling he was the beast at the end of this book, I'm going to keep hope alive that in the end Mac and Barrons are going to end up together!
A sincere thank you to this book for being exactly what I needed to pull me out of this quarantine slump. I thoroughly enjoyed being back with this crew and the setting taking place at another gladiator event was perfection. It was like coming full circle. The Regalia Games did not disappoint. Evie was really in her element, I loved seeing how far she has come and what a confident leader and warrior she has grown to be.
The showdown between Evie and the Mortan king was exactly what I was hoping for, but I think the long game she had been playing with Maeven exceeded any expectations. I definitely had a feeling what direction that was heading in, but Evie took it to another level by the end and I couldn't help cheering her on the whole way.
While I was totally fine with the romance being pretty low key in this one, the action kept me plenty satisfied, I do wish Sully would have had a stronger role in everything. Although I super LOVE how strong and fierce the leading ladies are, I think with the concern he had in the second book of just being a downlow consort it would have been nice to see him really flourishing in that role rather than fading more into the background.
All in all Crush the King was pretty much everything I was hoping for as a conclusion to this story. It was a fitting ending but as always with the worlds I've come to love, I am sad to say goodbye. I would definitely be psyched to see a spinoff series set in this world. Just throwing that out there into the ether.

This was a quick fun read. I'm really digging the Brimstone Inc. series so far! I loved the dynamic between the shifters human forms and their inner animal. It was pretty neat how there was kind of a separation of the two and it got really interesting when the wolf personas were clashing with the human personalities.
It was fun to see how this political alliance evolved into a romantic one, and the many hurdles Tala and Marrok had to overcome in that journey. I can't wait to see what Brimstone Inc. gets us into next!

I quite enjoyed the setting too. The quirky southern small town of Arbor Bay added an extra fun dynamic to the mix. I have to say I'd love to see more of some of these characters in a future book! This was a perfect feel-good escapism romance, with some of my favorite tropes, sunshine/grumpy and fake dating. I highly recommend to fans of contemporary romance.
