Growing Home is a tale full of fun twists and turns. The style of the writing reminds me of Lemony Snicket ("A Series of Unfortunate Events Series) in how the narrator tells the story, as well as in the explanations presented to readers when an idea or word they may not understand is introduced. It is a fun yet almost deadpan tone. The magical elements and hidden connections throughout this story make it so enjoyable.

Right off the bat I have to say that this book relies pretty heavily with religious trauma, while it is done in more fun way it is definitely something to be aware of before you dive in. That being said I absolutely love the main character and her plan to get back at the pastor who decides to shame and basically exile her family from their community. Her fight and drive is inspiring. As someone who has attended churches like the one in this book that the pastor straight up calls out and shames individuals in the community during their sermon. It as breath taking to see this young queer woman stick it to the pastor. It is definitely worth a read, if religious trauma is not too intense of a trigger for your.

This book was such a fun and adventurous journey. It is full of family magic, twists and turns and just the right amount of spice. Major points to the author to for includeing the full quote " the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" quote. So many people use this one incorrectly and more people need to know the true meaning of the phrase. Absolutely loved the ending as well.

Simon and Chester have such an amazing friendship. It is always fun to join them on their adventures. I love the theme of finding your place in this one. This book is full of empathy and other emotional intelligence lessons. I love how Chester advocates for his fellow ghosts.

This book is absolutely perfect. It offers a good amount of information at an age appropriate level that the kids (and adults) will be able to glob onto and devoir. It presents everything in such an empathetic way as well. I have been looking for a really good book on Autism for children for our libraries children's collection and this definitely fits the bill!

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC to write an honest review!

You can just feel the author's passion for the subject in this book. This is an enjoyable and engaging read about trees and their reactions with humans, history, and each other. I have learned so many wonderful things from this book. Definitely recommend!

An absolutely beautiful story about a young Asian American girl who feels that she does not belong. This story is full of adventure and mythology. It is a powerful showing of how we can find our way back ourselves and how important it is to be our truest selves.
