A memoir about cats, sure. But really a memoir about so much more. A heartfelt, vulnerable discussion of trauma, poverty, depression, and more, and how these interconnect with caring for cats (and people).
Interesting narrative structure. Someone telling a story through a one-way mirror, not sure if anybody is listening. Themes of grief, class, and privilege. Slow-paced, slow build, ambiguous ending.
Another hit with my son. We are enjoying the ongoing Orson Eerie storyline that has continued through all the books.
This did not deliver what the title claimed it would. A few good ideas/quotes, a few lists of questions to ask while reading nonfiction, and a lot of discussing nonfiction books. Not sure that I would use more than excerpts/quotes with my students - if that.
