I have the same feeling as I did when I first read Bunny. What the fuck did I just read??

This is definitely a strange, fucked up novel but I loved it all the same! Starling’s prose is gorgeous, and despite the mind bending plot and lack of information for a lot of it, I will say, the atmosphere and intense characters more than made up for it!

This book reminded me how much I love romance books 🥹 It’s truly a story written as a hug for all the romance book lovers out there, tied together with some tongue-in-cheek jokes and references to all our favorite (and perhaps not so favorite) tropes! Having the rivalry be between two book influencers made it especially fun for me seeing as how that’s a lot of the content I consume online anyway.

While the ending wrapped up a biiiit too quickly
(wow, the family has ONE dinner of confessing to struggling and bam, everything's better? Riiiiiight....)
, this was such a joy to read! It’s great on audio, although I ended up switching to my physical copy just so I could consume the story faster.

Susan Lee is definitely a new favorite author for me, all the books I’ve read by her have been filled with kilig!

Shiraha really dragged my enjoyment of this book down, but I absolutely adored Keiko.

This was such a simple, fast-paced book with subtly sharp observations of what it’s like to try and find your place in a society that says you can only be a successful human if you have a career or have kids. And Keiko is happiest working at a convenience store. What’s wrong with that?

First off I would not recommend this on audio - the narrator does a poor job differentiating between the character voices and there are several POVs throughout, so it was very confusing.

Secondly, I understand when I pick up a YA book to adjust my expectations for a teen led cast. But goodness, this was such poor character work in my opinion. It seems the author was counting on her audience to already feel attached to any relationships formed in the book instead of actually developing them. This led to some lackluster chemistry and overall severely weakened what could’ve been a decent book.

To conclude my experience, this was all vibes, no substance.

The miscommunication trope was testing me, but overall this was a super cute and sweet romance

I cannot keep track of how often I squealed and laughed - absolutely loved this one! An excellent addition to the friends-to-lovers trope.

Vuong writes for the sentimental saps, and I am one of them.

Honestly? I really enjoyed my time reading this unique, quirky book! Although my main complaint is that this would've benefited from being shorter. Perhaps a short story even? There was just so much wasted time spent on her mediocre exploration at dating a man to get to her true love - a very specific plane.

But overall, this was a weird litfic book about a woman finding her place in the world and even learning how to make a friend along the way. Linda might have a weird kink, but you can't help but be charmed by her!
