It’s agony, how often Jennifer Estep repeats herself, and the events of the previous book. My memory may not be the best, but I’m sure I won’t forget the highlights of a book, that I read just a month ago. She literally repeats everything. And by everything, I mean everything. Introduces old characters again, says in which relation they are with her, etc.
I don’t know why she does it, maybe she’s trying to pamper up her own memory, but I hope she does it differently in the next book. Write notes on a paper or something to not forget her own plot, but please keep it far from me.
I’m sure this book would be about 100-200 pages shorter, if she would’ve have repeated herself that much.
Apart from that agony, I liked the book and its story. It was exciting and nice to see some new characters, especially Violet and Warren. I hope they reappear in the following books.
I didn’t like Gin’s love life in this one, simply because I don’t ship her with this guy. Or the guys. I loved how it was established in the first book, I loved the one-night-stands and that she was thinking of a potential romance. But this was too far for my taste, as I’m not a fan of romance, unless I really really ship those characters. Maybe that one’s just on me and I do think that most of her readers enjoy that, as I do find it better than in other books with romance tropes.
I just wished I could’ve enjoyed this book more, as I did the first one, but her repeating really got on my nerves.

Really loved this book as a kid. Probably one of the reasons I love witches now.
That was like my favorite book when I was a kid in pre-school.
I loved the easiness of the first book and was therefore a bit discomforted/displeased (?) that this took a more serious turn.
At least in the beginning. I did like the last chapters, especially once Kitty and Bartimaeus had met in person.
I did love her story, it was better than Nathaniel’s for sure, even though both act because of revenge.
The writing overall is really neat, and the author surely loves describing things. Sometimes I feel like he gets to wrapped up into descriptions, which is not my preference, but he definitely has talent.
So overall I kinda enjoyed reading it, but the first 200-300 pages were a bit hard to get myself into it much. At that point, I just wanted to finish it. Then, however, once the strings worked against Nathaniel’s favor, it became a bit more interesting.
Especially I loved that Kitty & Bartimaeus got along. And were amused about talking badly about Nathaniel! Serves him right, that boy.
And i also loved a lot that Nathaniel didn’t turn out to be the hero, as compared to the last book. Yes, to the outside world and the other magicians, he’s the hero, but Bartimaeus and the readers know better. Thank you, Jonathan, for this!

THIS. IS. A. MASTER. PIECE.
Fr tho, this is truly amazing! Mesmerizing! Each page, each panel, is so full of detail, painted with so much love, you could stare at it for hours! You could literally use each panel as a poster to hang in your room! I’m not kidding.
Apart from the art, the story is nice as well. Dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic. Humans are gone, animals turned mad or just hungry. Really well done, I was always in this post-apocalyptic feeling; the art of course underlined that, with the well used color grading and/or atmosphere.
The protagonist is a mouse, so there are lots of predators and our heroes can never rest. But there are friends as well. I loved the foxes the most, but it's hard to decide. The deer was cool too, I loved his chillness. All characters – on the good side – were nice, but even the ones on the bad side were well thought-through as well. Everyone felt very real.
The perspective from the mice was super great. Probably as well through the art and the camera angles, but more times than not, I felt myself transformed into a mouse and left alone in this large forest. The wolves were pretty creepy, especially at the beginning (I read it at night the first chapter, and I seriously was too afraid to do anything because of the realism and creepiness of the wolves, and generally everything in this comic). Even the cats were creepier than they should be (as a human).
I really really loved that comic, read it in one day on tapas and i hope to buy the physical copies, if they are still available. I can't believe how few likes/comments there are on Tapas; that's criminally shocking and unbelievable. Go read it, now!
