While not as good as Beartown or some of Backman's other works, Us Against You is a stronger novel than the vast majority I've read in the past year. If you want something about emotion, and life, and the human experience you'll find it in the town in the woods that loves hockey.
Graphic: Bullying, Death, Homophobia, Grief

This is a masterpiece of poetry. My only issue with it is that I wish it had some sort of footnotes or references in the back for people, like me, who aren't hockey fans. I had to consult Wikipedia a lot.
Maggs' poetry is very raw and human. I suspect it will be even better on a second read. It's poetry that deserves to be taken slow.

To quote ouransisters on Tumblr "If you're going to solve the problems your blind character has by giving them sight, then you probably shouldn't write a blind character ". It's very low-key ableist, the writing is kinda boring, the main character is unlikeable, and for someone who makes a living pointing out "sin tropes", there sure we're a lot of cliches.

I don't know why it what marked as light-hearted on this site but trust me it is NOT that. It's very good, though its been a while since I read it when I write this review.

This book made me sob so hard. I don't know if I was just reading at it a weird time in my life, or what, but I felt like Ann Nocenti and the character of Longshot really spoke to me. Also I believe it's a masterclass of making an emtionally-driven scifi story in the graphic novel media. I want everyone I know to at least give it a shot.
