Not my favorite of Sarah Dessen's books. It was hard to get into character-wise, as well as the family business aspect. I enjoyed seeing familiar names and places, but it felt as if Dessen cut out the scenery in Along For the RIde and pasted in some new characters and a new problem. One of my favorite aspects of Dessen's books are the characters growing up in different places, that all coexist in her little world. There was no breathing room for the town of Colby. It was back-to-back characters living in the same tiny town at the same time, which is just too much overkill for my taste. (Too much deja-vu.) Also, I was constantly comparing this book with Along For the Ride, and the character development on Auden was on a whole different level than Emaline. I did not feel ANY connection to Emaline and Luke's or Emaline and Theo's relationships or Emaline period. I also do not think the ending was very "Dessen-esque," or at least what I have come to expect from Sarah Dessen. Honestly, when I read her books I'm looking for a quick feel-good read about a girl moving somewhere, being out of her element, fight or flight concepts, meeting boy, love/happiness/romance, happy ending. Boom Boom Boom. This book did not do it for me.
