So I'm learning that I reaaaaaally don't like groveling. This was long, but overall a good fairytale type story. I loved that the heroine and her family were Jewish and that it was woven throughout the story. At times there was a bit too much description on monotonous everyday things for my taste, but I still found it interesting until the halfway mark. I found the beginning story telling great and interesting, lost a bit of steam in the middle, and then power read through the ending to see that slow burn happily ever after! (That i'm not quite satisfied with tbh.)
On the romance side, back to me not caring about groveling. The heroine really didn't need to be doing the hero any favors. He took her against her will, forced her into a loveless and cruel marriage where she worked for him, and then in order to save the children and people (cause she's a good human) she sacrifices her time and life to free him and go back to his land to help his people. He didn't deserve shit. Also he didn't bat an eye when she accused him and his people of murdering and r*ping mortals. It was like a "yup we do that, mortals have no value." Not impressed, I didn't care that he ~grew~ and got his head out of his ass, and he got a sliver of empathy for others, and that he finally realized his lady had worth?!? Like damn, people have worth? They shouldn't be used as bartering objects? Wild. I'm team Wanda. All the women deserved better, and their families.
Even the ending had me rolling my eyes. The Stark has the heroine with him for months while she literally put his town back together and rationed food out so people didn't starve, and he waits until she's freshly returned back to her family after never speaking about anything. Then fucking proposes to her/proposes to her dad asking for his daughters hand? But now that she's worthy/worth something useful to him he brings gifts to show it's a fair trade??!?! I know it's a ~fairy tale~ but damn, it rubbed a bit the wrong way. Sure... he got married on her terms, which of course he should, and then she's back to doing the same damn job she was doing when he trapped her, but NOW... she has his respect, and maybe might get some ice king dick.
Cool. Happy for her. (She deserved a lot better.)
Still calling it a solid 3 star read for me, if groveling was my thing maybe this would be a lot sweeter. I loved the world and magic system, and enjoyed Wanda. Wanda's my heroine. Maybe edit out a bit of the every day goat tending perhaps?

Aww this was adorable - the banter between these two was fantastic. I absolutely love Jaclyn and everything about her personality and idgaf attitude. And I'm here for a sturdy and all in hero.
3.5 - very cute! Loved the enemies to lovers trope and the lead's chemistry! The banter in this book was everything.
