Wasn't in the right headspace to read this. Will try again in a while.
Black Love Matters: Real Talk on Romance, Being Seen, and Happily Ever Afters
DID NOT FINISH: 10%
Ran out of borrow time on audiobook, will pick up again.
Not loving the start of this. how on earth will two people that hate each other, and one that's beat up the other for no reason, be lovers? meh
Didn't want to read about the domestic assault and rape going on with her sister. Halfway in and no clue if the romance is with the current generation or with the fated baby. Just got boring and bummed I bought all the audiobooks for this series tbh.
The ableism was the last straw for me. Comparing being deaf to being stupid. A lot of pop culture references that were dated. I don't care about the "high school bff's who after years come back and nothing's changed" trope. Just a no for me.
Moderate: Ableism, Bullying, Emotional abuse, Homophobia, Panic attacks/disorders, Classism
The 2006 era level of misogynoir and sexism is just not what I want to read. There's been some problematic shit, but I wanted to see a redemption arc/some kind of growth. I do not want to sit through the heroine having to go to the strip club and be queer bait for her birthday. Just hit too close to home. I also don't like the hero or his friends. Bleh.
