The Sun Down Motel

Simone St. James

DID NOT FINISH: 62%

The two timelines shared two women researching the exact same information. After 200 pages I stopped caring about how it would end nor did I care about either MC. I loathe wasting my time on garbage stories. Inquiry Into Love and Death was so good so I am angrily disappointed with this one.

What a lovely read! A thriller/romance disguised as a ghost story. I expected the ghost stories to be at the forefront of the novel but I was delighted to discover that I don’t mind a little romance in my mystery readings!

Spoiler: My greatest concern was that Jillian and Drew to end up together. And they did!

Take what you think you know about this book and throw it out the window. Also, prep yourself for literal jump scares!

Daisy Darker

Alice Feeney

DID NOT FINISH: 19%

I figured out that Daisy was dead around page 30ish and found it insulting that Feeney thought this twist was clever considering the reveal doesn’t drop till page 304 (I skipped ahead.)  If I figured it out so early in the book (and I’m not a genius) I’m sure others did as well.

A decent thriller with outlandish twists, an insufferable protagonist, and a finale that exposes storytelling lies rather than honest trickery.
