In November, my sister and I went to YALC and brought home... quite a few books 😅

The Overemotional series by David Fenne was in that book haul. The author was part of the "Un-natural Topics, Super Stories" panel, and his humour, as well as the description of the book, really made me want to read it right away. (Please note that I've been in one of my worst book slumps for over a year so me being excited to read a book made me very happy but also scared me quite a bit as well).

Overemotional is the story about Steven that has quite a bit of a magical problem. That being that his emotions trigger certain magical actions. So when he received his first kiss from a guy at a party and his happiness in that moment made that guys head explode (literally), he flees to a remote beach town in the UK to avoid harming more people and maybe even find a way to control his powers. Believing that being alone would hurt fewer people, he tells no one where he went. However, his best friend Freya, her boyfriend Markus, and their American friend Troy find a way to follow him. Then there is also the mysterious organisation DEMA that's been looking for him with talks of "neutralisation."

On my way home, I started book one, and by chapter three, I barely wanted to put it down. The humour in it was perfect, and the characters and the dynamic they had throughout the book were so good!!! And some of the twists!!! So good! I really like books like this!

The emotional magic fascinated me a lot. Steven's magic is reversed, so when he's happy, he breaks/destroyed stuff, or when he's angry, he makes others afraid. It was very interesting seeing how he dealt with that.

I absolutely enjoyed myself reading the first book, and luckily, I have book two to continue right away! Yay!!!
