“Growing up unafraid of the world is a good way to get destroyed by it”

they're so adorable

DIALOGUE SPOILERS!!! but not really...and I loved writing this review so read it if y'all are interesed in this series/book

“Then they spread out into a line, hold hands, and bow again. Everyone is up on their feet, and none of us worry about the noise we’re making or what we might bring upon ourselves.

The twins are right. This is life.”

1. dee dum are my favorite set of twins in the whole wide universe. they are either super wise and smart or just dead funny but they're awesome badasses 24/7.

exhibit 1: “It’s not about logic or practicality or anything that makes a remote amount of sense.”

exhibit 2: “They’re mouthing the words to the garbled voice screaming over the intense electric guitar and drums blasting out of the speakers. They might look pretty badass if it weren’t for their hobo clown outfits.”

2. Raffe is my spirit animal. Actually pig farmers are *wink*

“You’re matching me up with a pig farmer?”
“He shrugs. ‘Or whatever it is that decent men do when they’re not at war. Although he should be able to protect you. Don’t settle for a man who can’t protect you.”

3. Raffe is my new boyfriend

“If I were human, I would have been the first in line for you . . .”

4. I love Raffe and his Watchers

“They won’t let any part of him fall to the ground,’ says Raffe in a quiet voice. ‘His brothers will keep him from falling.”

5. I love the name Raffe / Raphael now

“I have better things to do.’
‘Like what?’
He opens one eye and looks at me. ‘Like convince a stubborn girl to admit she’s madly in love with me.’
I can’t help but smile.
‘So if it’s not a pig farm that you want, what is it?’ he asks.
I swallow. ‘How about a safe place to live where we don’t have to scrounge for food or fight for it?’
‘It’s yours.’
‘That’s it? All I have to do is ask?’
‘No. There’s a price for everything.’
‘I knew it. What is it?’
‘Me.”

6. Where you get dating advice: Raffe. He sure knows a lot about relationships for an angel who is prohibited to have one. . . but he is immortal and has been alive for thousands of years. . .

“You should be with a nice human boy. One who takes your orders and puts up with your demands. Someone who dedicates his life to keeping you safe and well fed. Someone who can make you happy. Someone you can be proud of.”

6. Can I just say that i get teary eyed whenever something bad happens to one of paige's locusts 😭😭

7. Penryn is not my favorite character (not that i hate her or dislike her, per se) I have to admit but the story was perfect how it was written from her point of view. From what happens to her sister and her mom's background. I LOVED IT!! and I like how her mom is still the same at the end of the book because it said that this isn't something that needed fixing or needed to be changed. This tells a lot about the story, the characters and the author. I appreciated it so much how it wasn't shown as a sickness of some kind or something. Their family was absolutely perfect as the main mcs.

“Maybe they’re sick of being nothing more than rats rummaging through the trash and running for their lives. Maybe they’re ready to be human again, if only for an hour.”

Although I did have a slight problem with the details in some scenes I easily overlooked it. This is also a book that just dives into everything and I don't know if that is positive or negative, it just depends on the reader i guess.

8. The idea of this world is so genius. I have never even thought of a world even similar to this one. A post-apocalyptic world brought by angels. It's so smart and i am blown away. I'm sure it doesn't sound appealing at first but after reading it. . . this. is. just. amazing.

I am so dead and gone by this point. They have all come a long way. Ciao and peace out fam ✌🏼This is my new obsession

“How does one tell impossible stories,”

How does one write an impossible review,, I literally have no words. It's just so raw and all I have to say is that I have so much respect for authors who can write about themselves for anyone to read... opening yourself to the public like that.

Powerful.

“When the historian of queer experience attempts to document a queer past, there is often a gatekeeper, representing a straight present.”

“They deserve those things because they are human beings. And that is enough.”

PRE READ:

the reviews for this book are glowing and insane and i am excited

I enjoyed it. I completely flew through this, finished it within a day. It's great. It had what I was looking for in that *hate to love* subgenre.
— overall thoughts: 3.00 —

Chloe and Red live in the same building but they start off with prejudices and wrong impressions towards each other... all that jazz.

actual story arc was just too typical to me, it was nothing new in terms of the ups and downs of the plot so that just bothered me a bit

BUT THEY ARE LITERALLY. SO. ADORABLE. I aspire to have a non-toxic relationship like this and just talk about our feelings in a *mature* way :)) yay

the hype just got to me I think for this so I was kind of underwhelmed, please don't kill me. this serves as a reminder as to why I should always wait until the hypes die down over books. I‘m more interested in the second book anyway and it’s why I read this so I have higher hopes for that

it's fluffy, has SUPER GOOD POSITIVE DIVERSE REPRESENTATION, non-toxic couple, made me laugh, made me jealous because I want a relationship like that, what else do you need

I’m sorry I keep updating this, I’m an indecisive reviewer, what’s new

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

Adorable light and fun read. I really liked Karen Ross’ writing style in this book. It was engaging and it was intriguing to read about Nina.

There was nothing too heavy and the characters were very easy to relate to. They were very easy to care for and are the kind that I look for in a contemporary. I really liked that the plot is centered around wakes and a wedding, it made it very intriguing for me since these events are opposites of each other in terms of how people react to them.

It was honestly a real fun read and I would recommend this to anyone who just wants something light-hearted. I read this book to break up a fantasy streak of mine and it worked really well for me… so if you want to do that I really recommend you try this out.

OVERALL: 3.5

This was.. interesting… (in a good way)

This is a story I probably would not have picked up nor would I have enjoyed if it wasn’t a graphic novel. The illustrations gave the story a lot of life and it was able to translate what the author wants to show well.

The book tackled problems that Hazel, as girl who grew up homeschooled and sheltered, encounters when she meets other kids who grew up practically the opposite of her environment. I like how you can clearly see the difference in her headspace and how her actions/reactions differ from the those that in the “No Ivy League” with her.

((you also learn a bit about Ivy plants :D))

There is a lot of mature themes in this novel so consider yourself warned because I was not. I was a bit shaken at the beginning but it proved to be important in the plot. It also makes for a good coming-of-age novel. There are important lessons that I think a lot of people can benefit from.

Though, there some topics that I felt like were never closed properly and just simply ended.

I really enjoyed seeing Hazel develop as a character and I have to admit that I was rooting for her every step of the way. I loved seeing her grow and I feel like she is someone that a lot of people can relate to at one point in their lives. I think she was a great protagonist and I really enjoyed reading about her. Even though I’m still not the biggest fan of how awful most of the No Ivy League people were to her (this was one of the things that I felt wasn't closed properly).

This was also not a long read so it's easy to get through.

Thank you to Lion Forge for sending me an ARC to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This book is released on August 20, 2019.

Never Sit If You Can Dance is about a woman's appreciation for her mother and the lessons we learn from our own. Sometimes we don't realize it but our mothers always have these life lessons to teach us. It reminded me of my own mother and I was able to relate to a number of these lessons.

I very much enjoyed this book.

Thanks to the publisher and the author for sending me an ARC through Booksirens to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
