It was fine. I wish there was more conflict. There was the set up for intense conflict but it all resolved super simply. Also. . . no one says "coming" out loud during sex. ICK.
🏒 Hockey Romance
🏒 It has always been you
🏒 no 3rd act breakup
🏒 mental health rep
🏒 Forced Prox

This man. . . no. Ew. He is a walking red flag, and not in the sexy way.
I really liked this book. I connected with Kissen right away. Her backstory in the prologue was written so beautifully, that our other 3 POVs felt like a little like side characters and it took me a minute to warm up to them.
My only complaints are common with books that are first in the series. The plot felt like a lot of building (traveling plot) until the big conflict at the end of the book leading into book 2. Same for the romance I WANT MORE (but i expect we will get that in future book).
Loved:
Bisexual FMC (Queer normative world)
Disability Rep
Enemies to Lovers
Found Family

I have never in my life been so upset that a series is over. Rachel Gillig is an instant buy author for me now. Of course, I can't say too much about the sequel without spoiling the first book, but this is everything I could have wanted & more. It look me a minute to get into the first book & understand the magic system but book 2 had me hooked from the start. The side characters of the first book were explored so beautifully and the adventure had me on the edge of my seat. I found myself cheering for the romance and yelling at the antagonists. I was feeling every feeling at 100%. I will hear no negative comments about this book.
This is like a Hallmark movie but with some spice. The FMC & MMC are named Melody & Beat, so you should know what you're getting in to. Beat & Melody are the children of a female rock duo who broke up before they were born. They met once in passing when they were 16 and it was instant love. 14 years later they have never seen or spoken to each other since. That is, until they are invited to do a reality TV show trying to get their moms back together for a reunion show on Christmas eve.
This book follows Tessa Baileys tried & true formula of a super protective MMC. The banter in this book was too notch, not just being our main couple, but also the mothers & other side characters. The spicy scenes with spicy & had some light K*nk.
My main complaints are things I knew going into reading the book. Miscommunication & a IMO unnecessary 3rd act breakup.
TLDR. It was cheesy, Hallmark-y, and slightly Christmas themed. I read the entire thing in less than 24 hours and was entertained.
