DNF. This book is poorly written with nothing interesting. There is insta-love and a ton of predictability.
Technically a DNF around page 170, but I did skim through the rest of the book and got an idea of what happened. The book was boring with them wandering the unknown planet and the characters were one dimensional and had zero growth. The book got very strange and even stranger as I skimmed through it. This book has gotten really good reviews and a ton of hype, but this book falls really flat for me and I just want to forget this bizarre book.
This is Kristen Orlando's debut novel, and I think she really hit the mark with this book. At first, I did not like the book, but within page 50 I started to fall in love with the book. I really love Reagen's friendships, especially with Luke. In addition, I love the internal struggle Reagen has over being a Black Angel or living a normal life. Once "the event" happens the book really picks up and leaves you wanting more by the last page.
I'll admit the first 20 pages I thought this book would be awful, however, I noticed I couldn't put the book down, and read most of the book in a day. I noticed I actually really liked this book despite the first twenty pages. The plot line does move fairly quick, but it does not seem too rushed or too slow. It has that perfect median. The characters were amazing and the plot line was very well done. I liked some of the plot twists as well. The cover is really pretty. Good start to the books that are coming out in 2017. Thankfully, Fireblood (book 2) will be out this September. Cannot wait to see how the plot line changes and where the story takes us to next.
There are three sisters and only one can be really Queen. One is a naturalist, the other is an elementalist, and the third is a poisoner. One is stronger and the other two are weak with their gifts or the does not have a gift. At the end of the ceremonies where they all must meet, they must show off their gifts, and then have one year to kill each other with one only surviving. The book goes through each of the girls lives and their gifts. I must say I love Arisnoe and hope she is the one that ends up being Queen. I cannot wait for the sequel.
I have had my eyes on Caraval since November 2016 and really, really looking forward to this book. The book grabbed my attention from page one and the book makes you keep guessing what is going to happen next. There is some romance in this book, but I love the relationship between Scarlett and Tella. I have thought I had things figured out in this book, but then a plot twist would come around and make me re-think everything. This book has a ton of twist and turns, lies, and deceptions. Cannot wait for the sequel.
The Royals will really ruin you. The book is a fun reading making you how the Royal's will treat Ella, and if Ella will run. I actually really enjoyed this book and read 300 pages of the book in one day while laying on the couch with a terrible cold. The book is definitely a light read, but is worth it.
