I'd give this book all the stars in the universe if I could!!
Review coming soon!

Did I finish this within 9 hours? Yes I did.
Am I tired? Extremely.
Was it worth it? A million time yes.

Do I need to rest my brain for a couple of days to gather my thoughts to even be able to write a review? Yes, definitely

“She wasn't interested in telling other people's futures. She was interested in going out and finding her own.”

After hearing such positive feedback on this series, it took me long enough to finally get to it. Sometimes when it comes to certain books, mainly books who have been hyped, I wait for ‘the right moment’ to read them. Which is always or never. But now that the OWL’s have come along and I had a prompt that fit The Raven Boys, I couldn’t let it sit on my shelf any longer.

Blue Sargent comes from a family of seers, psychics, witches and mediums. And Blue isn’t any of these. Although she doesn’t have the ability to see the dead and the soon-to-be dead, she does attract a lot of those entities. Which makes her the perfect companion on reading and churchyard sessions.
Usually her mother Maura takes her along, but this time her Aunt Neeve is by her side. The woman who told Blue that this is the year Blue is going to fall in love. Which for anyone else would have been exciting to hear, but for Blue it is rather dangerous. Because if Blue was to kiss her true love, he would die. This has been the exact reason why she decided to never fall in love.

As Blue sees a spirit of a soon-to be dead boy. She finds herself in the difficult situation of choosing to warn him. By doing so, she could prevent his death or ruin the last time he has left living.

Oh man…this book…

It was rather hard for me to really get into this book! It felt very slow paced at the beginning and there wasn’t really anything happening. I kept putting it down but there was potential, so I kept reading. And I am so glad I did because now I have such strong feelings for this book! Not alone for the characters but the story over all. And the Magic is so crazy, I have never read anything like it before!

Now, I am very big on romance… and there wasn’t a lot…and when there was? It was pretty mild but very sweet and uncertain which was different. But very real and actually very lovely to read.
I don’t really know how to feel about Blue’s current ”love” interest. Because from the start I loved him as a character himself, he was so sweet and determined to reach his goals and I just wanted to hold an squish him. But after finishing the book I feel less like squishing him and more like observing him from a save distance. Because I have a feeling, he’s going to turn into someone that I don’t like. And I really hope that doesn’t happen!!!

Blue

Blue and her family are so different and extremely interesting! The magic in the family runs so differently through each and everyone’s veins. Except for blue who’s practically a charger for other people’s powers. I love how Blue’s perspective on her abilities changes when she finds out how she can use what she can do to help others.

Gansy

It’s funny but also admiring to see how driven Gansy is to finding Glendower. Gansy is also the one who kind of keeps everyone in check. He keeps Ronan in school and keeps him from fighting Declan (even though he deserves a good punch). Then there’s Adam. Gansy offers Adam anything he needs even though Adam refuses it every time. He cares so much about the people around him. And even though he’d do anything to find Glendower. He wouldn’t risk his family and friends getting hurt…unlike other.

Ronan

Ronan is so mysterious and that’s almost everything about him. I NEED MORE RONAN.

Adam

Adam, I adore you but...put your pride away and shove it in your pocket to keep for another time okay. It’s okay for people to help youuu. I like Adam but sometimes it became very annoying how he would downgrade Gansy because he is rich. I don’t even understand how they came to be friends sometimes. I understand it was extremely hard for Adam to except thing from Gansy but it got dangerous. And Gansy, as a good friend, just wanted to help. Adam is a very complicated character and I’m really intrigued by how his character will develop through the rest of the series.

Noah

I loooove, love, love, love, love Noah. He’s there and I’m glad and I don’t want him to leave, ever. Again…

Whelk

I know Whelk was described as handsome man but I keep picturing this creepy, old grumpy and evil man when I get to read his POV. This man gives me the creeps and I wish Neeve would have buried him in the woods.

The writing

It took me just a tiny little while to get used to the writing. Most of the time I don’t really enjoy third person but Maggie Stiefvater does it magnificently! She describes the things I wouldn’t even have words for so perfectly and vivid.
The magic was so beautiful yet eerie which made me want to bundle up into a pile of blankets to keep me cozy and safe while the brave figured out their mystery

Because I love the Vampire Diaries series so much I became really excited when I found the complete book series in a second hand books shop.
I think I just got compelled to immediately buy them all.

Going into it, it was very hard not to compare tis to the series.
And I really disliked it at first because the characters ar so different (I will get deeper into this) and some of my favorite characters don’t even exist. Also at first it sounds more like a bad adaptation of mean girls which I didn’t expect at all but that faded away quickly, luckily.
I didn’t think I would have given it even one star at first.
But because the writing was so simple it was very quick to get through and I was really needing a quick read so that made it enjoyable.
And I had to stay around for Damon of course.

Let’s start (complaining) with Elena. In this book she is utterly annoying and selfish and I can’t get myself to like her. This is how her character is written and she is made to be cold and selfish but it just makes it more confusing as to why she is so special and why everyone likes her so much.
The only thing that makes sense is that Damon likes her because she’s cold and fierce, like him.
I never really understood the insta love that started with Stefan and Elena other that that she reminds him of his past love. Which is just tragic.

I really hope I will grow on Elena because I will continue this series.

Why? Because the rest of the characters are really like able, interesting and mysterious. And the story is actually really fun and intriguing. There is always something going on which makes it exciting and makes you want to know what will happen next.
The book ends with a cliffhanger that tells you that you know something but you also don’t know what’s going to happen at all.

If you’re in for a quick, fun, supernatural read, I would definitely recommend it.
It’s not he best book about vampires but it’s not the worst either.
And I think if you loved the series on Netflix you would probably also like the books.
