This has continued to age surprisingly well. Really enjoyed (re?)reading this. I’m feeling a marathon read of all of Christie’s work coming up.

I really enjoyed reading through the collection of menus and taking a step back in time with this culinary snapshot of history. However, few of the recipes sounded appetizing for my particular food interests. I would love to see more books like this from different eras (including restaurants of today!).

A clever and cautionary tale for anyone who enjoys language or word puzzles. My personal favorite anagram is “Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow” which is 29 letters and sadly did not make an appearance in the book.

I LOVE Bethan’s illustrations! And twisted fairytales. Gah.

The illustrations are wonderful, but the rhyming was rather clunky to read in places.

I LOVED the ride this book took me on! I really did not want to put it down and finished it within a day.

Whimsical & entertaining, magical & humorous; one of the few competition-style adventures I really enjoyed reading.

One of the most comprehensive, step-by-step books on self-editing I’ve come across. This is an excellent resource for anyone (not just teens) looking for guidance with macro and micro-edits with their draft. However, some of the information hasn’t aged well and I would not seek this book out as a resource for publishing. For instance, the authors recommend only turning to self-publishing if you’ve tried and failed in the traditional publishing world and I cannot stress enough how that’s really really not the reason you should self-publish. There are so, so many reasons why someone would prefer to self-publish over traditionally publish (and vice-versa), and I would have preferred this section to have been written by a guest author with self-publishing experience.
