A Walk to Remember is one of my favourite movies, and now is one of my favourite books too. I personally like the movie a bit better, but the book is still absolutely amazing! I'm still crying and I finished it almost an hour ago. Such a beautiful story, I'm so glad I finally read this!

2015 Reading Challenge: A book that made you cry

I don't even know what to say. No words can describe how much I loved this book! So many tears! So many emotions!

I remember absolutely hating this book in my grade 9 English class, so much that I actually abandoned it and turned to Sparknotes to get my project done. 5 years later in a university English class, I was assigned to read this yet again. But this time, starting from the very first page, I absolutely loved it. Many of the characters, especially Bilbo, Beorn, and Smaug, are so interesting! I really liked Biblo, I found him to be relatble and watching this adventure unfold from his eye was really interesting; the story definitely would have lost sometime it was told from any other perspective.

The one thing I didn't particularly like was the last arc of the journey. The whole novel I was waiting to see how they would deal with the dragon since, as Biblo pointed out, that had always been the weak point in their plan. I was kind of disappointed with how Smaug was taken care of and found it to be anticlimactic. I also wish we had gotten to know Smaug's character more, since he was so interesting. And I personally found the Battle of the Five Armies to be a little boring at times, especially with what happened to Biblo.

But despite my disappointment with the climax of the story, I still really enjoyed it and fell in love with this world. I can't wait to read the Lord of the Rings series (whenever I actually have time to read for fun again...)

A month after finishing this, I'm finally going to write the review

Let me just start by saying that I only picked this up because my roommate dared me too; we read the description together and it sounded so bad and she likes to see me suffer

I HATED THIS BOOK. SO MUCH. It only got two stars because the ending was kind of interesting, and I liked a couple of the side characters (the designer dude and the kid who wanted to be an asha but couldn't because of sexism. I liked those two a lot and I still can't remember their names, that's how boring this book was). If not for those two factors, this The Bone Witch easily would have gotten one star.

I will mention the one thing that I loved about this book. Just one thing. And it's the story lines of the two side characters I mentioned above. I really liked that Chupeco talked about that issue, of these two men wanting to do pursue something that's seen as "feminine" and not being allowed to do so because of it. The scene where tea is trying to get the dude who makes the hua's to make one for her friend, and someone mentions his struggles in becoming the best designer anyone had ever seen, that part actually made me cry. It was so sweet

Aside from that, everything else pretty much sucked. It took me four months to read this. FOUR MONTHS. IT WAS THAT BORING. There was barely a plot. Very few characters had any sort of development, the world building wasn't very good, the plot was waaaay too slow paced. Everything about this was bad. I definitely won't be reading the second book

I just realized I forgot to mark this as finished almost a month ago... oops

The Sun and Her Flowers was absolutely gorgeous, a must read for any who loved poetry, or even kinda likes poetry. There’s something for everyone in here, I’d say the vast majority of people can relate to some of the things she talks about. 100% recommend to anyone

This is kind of a hard book to rate for me. I was good in its own way, but at the same time I never would have even considered picking it up if I didn't have to read it for class. The writing style is beautiful and poetic, and I liked how complex the themes were, and I liked the characters and the story. But while I did like pretty much everything about this book, at the same time I didn't. It's really hard to explain. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Housekeeping, but I also wouldn't tell someone not to read it. I'm kind of all over the place with how I feel about Housekeeping lol
