A very interesting and unusual book. I enjoyed it and it kept me interested with fascinating descriptions of the era and Grace's life, as well as the life of the doctor examining her.
This is a book that truly and fully captures the beauty of the west coast. The stories are simple yet draw you in, and the descriptions leave you dreaming of the ocean glowing with bioluminesence, tall trees, and mountains that scrape the sky.
Growing up, the Protector of the Small series was my least favourite of the Tortall-world books by Tamora Pierce. I thought the challenges she faced as a woman knight-in-training were too on-the-nose, like Lord Wyldon's attitude towards her, or how she did just as well as her classmates for mediocre acceptance. However, reading this book as an adult in a male-dominated career, I've learned that what Keladry goes through is still very prevalent in many careers that women enter, and I just didn't know any better when I was younger. I found it a much more engaging book this time around.
Amazing. This was such a good book. There was so much depth to the book, it felt much longer than it actually was, but in the best way possible.
A fascinating story of one of those people who should be in history books but aren't. I loved hearing about BC when it was still wild and the people that explored it.
