I feel weird about this one. I think I liked it, but I really really do not like third person present tense, and it was a struggle to get past some of it. Not sure the worldbuilding or the relationship felt believable to me. I liked it enough to finish it I guess!
7 years since the first time I read this. Hit even harder knowing more of the context and being able to relate to more of the emotions. One of those books where you just want to keep going just to spend time with the author listening to everything he has to say. Trevor Noah has a real gift for contextualizing his stories with the world around him and digging into the roots of all of his experiences while making it fucking hilarious.

I've actually been liking this book so far (Beverly Jenkins is really good at scene-setting and historical detail without making it feel like a lecture) but man I cannot stand this audiobook narrator. All her voices sound the exact same without much emotional inflection. I'll come back to it when I get a text copy.
