This is the first book to one of my favourite series, but it shines really only on second and third readings when you're aware and you can pick out all the sharp details. Megan Whalen Turner is absolutely *brilliant* but this is obviously where she's just starting up. It's not quite as politically complex as Queen or King is, but it's a fast, fun read.
