Mostly just really boring. It kept telling me the two leads were in love rather than doing anything to make me really believe it. I kept waiting for something to actually happen and when it did it felt devoid of any real danger, like the author was too scared to even imply the sense that something bad had a chance of happening to these people. 2 stars because though they're both extremely dull, they weren't offensively so. I wasn't offended by anything in the book, just bored.

I don't feel comfortable giving this book stars, but I loved this book. What a beautifully brutal and evocative memoir. I love how much that stubborn drive to find some sort of happiness and to survive shines through all the vignettes. The audiobook really felt like sitting down with someone and listening to their story, rambling and tangents and all. Highly recommend for all Canadians.
