This is a slow, quiet but sweet and beautiful book. I read this book for an online book club, and look forward to skimming it again for a real life book club in March. This is the story of newsreader (best job ever!) Captain Kidd, who agrees to return a young girl to her family after she has been held captive by an Indian tribe. The setting is post-civil war Texas. It is a relatively short book that I might wish was longer.

Read this for an online bookclub. The essays are witty and sweet. Glad that I purchased it so I can tuck it 'cheek to jowel' with other treasures and come back to it again.
