I’m glad I listened to this as an audiobook. So many who didn’t care for this book cite it’s length, slow pace. I enjoyed it. The writing reminded me of “A Little Life”. This book will definitely stay with me, although I doubt I would ever push anyone to read it.
So hard to rate. Writing was thoughtful but subject matter so difficult. Will definitely read more of Didion’s work.
At the start it seemed overly simple and predictable, but it definitely got better throughout. I found the scene with the hamburger in the apartment unbelievable. All in all it touched on some female rights issues and touching cultural elements.
