I had high hopes for this book and it did not deliver. I finished it only out of stubbornness. I was looking for a nice long standalone fantasy novel but this just didn't work for me. Out of the standalone fantasy novels I have read that are this long I would recommend reading Tigana rather than this.

I really enjoyed this book. I even dragged out finishing the book so I could live with these characters a little longer. So much of what happens here is unexpected and what is predictable is satisfying. I cant wait to find out what happens to these characters. One thing I really like in this story is the diverse cast of adversaries and evil. It's not just one guy, one force, or dark overlord. It's all around in different forms and degrees, in different types of people. I encourage anyone who loves epic stories to pick this series up. It has tons of feels. Shed a few tears multiple times throughout the ending.
